What do you think of Czechs?

Hi, I´m from the Czech Republic. I just wondered what the others know about us and what they think of us. You can also write what you have learnt about my country when seeing news in TV. You can be critical if you want to although I'd be happier if you wouldn't be

I have never seen a Czech on TV, on the street, on radio or anything.

I don't even know how to pronounce it.

Sorry... Your country isn't very talked about here... and mostly all I hear are bad things.

Briefly, what I know is that it was a part of, what, the Prussian Empire during the 19th century?

After WWI, it became a country with Czechoslovakia.

Then, Hitler took over.

Then, the communists took over.

Then, the country decided to split into Czech Republic and Slovakia.

I don't even know what the capital is any more. Is it Prague? Or is that in Slovakia? (I know that I could look it up if I wanted--I'm just trying to give my impressions, as vague as they are).

It is supposed to be a nice, cheap tourist destination isn't it? With some old castles, and old architecture?

In Chicago, there are a lot of Czechs. There are a lot of Czech restaurants, which they call Bohemian. Is Bohemia a part of Czech Republic?

The Bohemian restaurants tend to emphasize dumplings.

Vaclov Havel: is he Czech? I've heard the name.

There was a movie that I saw this year, from Czech Republic, where someone pretended to construct a big new super store, and advertised it. Then, people came, and it was just a joke.

It's nice to welcome a "neighbor" to our forum I'm from the adjacent country There's also one more person on the forum from this part of Europe, concretely from Slovakia.

I've met people who've traveled there and said it was beautiful. One commented on the architecture. I've heard that you can buy real absinthe there. Overall, it's been highly recommended as a tourist destination. Other than that, I've heard very little about it, outside my high school European history class.

Don't you folks have good liquor or something?

There is a huge Czech community in Texas, about 80-90 miles west of Houston (particularly Fayette, Colorado, Austin, and Lavaca counties).

I intend to attend Czhilispiel, in Flatonia, one day.

so far i am impressed that someone knows as much as pandabear.

i think that, after the movies like eurotrip or hostel, people could also hear something about Slovakia. but careful, both of the movies were shoot in Czech republic.

i love Czechs, you are my favorite nation but maybe my opinion doesn't count, since i am your eastern neighbor... although currently living elsewhere...

I admit I really don't anything about the Czech Republic off the top of my head.

I know a few czechs n must admit they have a good football team, talented tennis players n very nice people.

I spent four days in Prague last year, nice city with friendly people.
