The 50-year-old, who suffered from a number of medical conditions, was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Anderson, 27, and from Raby Road in the Teesside town, had earlier admitted outraging public decency.

The court heard how, on 27 July, Miss Lakinski was making her way home with a box of laminate flooring when she fell ill and stumbled into a doorway.

Anderson, a former soldier, had smoked a cannabis joint and been drinking when he and two friends spotted her.

He tried to rouse her by throwing a bucket of water over her, before urinating on her and covering her with shaving foam.

A crowd had gathered around, watching and laughing, and the incident was filmed on a mobile phone.

She was later declared dead at the scene, the cause of death being given as pancreatic failure.

Magistrates in Hartlepool had referred the case to Teesside Crown Court so a longer jail term could be handed out.

Judge Peter Fox, the recorder of Middlesbrough sitting at Teesside Crown Court, said: "You violated this woman in an incredible way, and the shocking nature of your acts over a prolonged period of time must mean that a prison sentence of greater length is appropriate in this case."

Outside court, Miss Lakinski's family said in a statement: "We remain totally shocked that anyone could behave in such an appalling way.

"The fact that Christine was dying makes this man's actions even more sick and inhumane.

"However, those who stood by and did nothing to stop Anderson are also guilty in our eyes.

"It beggars belief that these people chose not only to condone his cruelty, but also to walk away from a neighbour who was clearly in distress and needed help."

The family statement added that Christine had "faced immense challenges throughout her life", yet still had managed to "forge an independent life for herself".

There might be another side to this story. :?: He was stoned. Or maybe she deserved it.

All considered, she was dying anyway, so no real harm done. That crowd that watched that embodies the reason I hate humans.

She died covered in urine and shaving foam, I think there was a LOT of harm done to her dignity. Why these guys think she deserved no dignity in death is beyond me

She didn't deserve that, she was an innocent person, dying in the street. That croud was a bunch of worthless scumbags.

As for him being stoned, just more of a reason to reclassify Cannabis back to class B, and keep it illegal.

Not only that, but she was ill and disabled.

I hope that animal gets locked up for at least 10 years.

she was dying and needed an ambulance, not a crowd of spectators making fun of her. The ambulance came an hour later and she was dead. How would like to be lying there with pee, and shaving cream with people laughing at you while you slowly died???!

She was a poor disabled woman who fell. Had they called the police she may have lived, but instead they made her last minutes on Earth a living hell. To die surrounded by people laughing at you, covered in urine and shaving cream, I can't imagine how she must have felt.

That is an assumption, that she is innocent. How could you know unless you knew her? She might have been an animal abuser that karma bit back. I'm not saying she was, I'm just saying that because we don't know much about her it might be a possibility. Maybe she was a horrible teacher and that guy was her student at one point and she ruined his life? Doubtful, but we don't know.

What could anyone do to deserve this? Besides, she's discribed as the victim of abuse and torture throughout her life. ((Note: I'm posting a video news report, not the videotaped crime.))

How can a 50 year old, mentally disabled woman be a teacher?

Whatever sick rationale was behind it, there is no justification for doing something so disgusting to a dying, disabled person. The crowd gathered around and laughed at it, bystanders. They just condoned that cruelty, and laughed at it.

Innocent victim. The monster even said "this is youtube material", as if it was going to be posted on youtube for sick, twisted "fun".
Don't try and justify such things. Random strangers were just standing by and laughing.

I'm not trying to justify it. The guy who did that is an as*hole, I'm just saying she might have been one, too. We shouldn't just assume that she was a wonderful person or innocent just because of the slant the news puts on it. If she was mentally disabled that reduces the likelihood that she deserved this, however. I stay with my point that this might have been karma for her abusing animals earlier in her life. Likely, no, impossible, no. I'm not saying it is, I'm just leaving all the possibilities on the table.

Karma has nothing to do with this! No one deserves this, I don't care if this was a pedofile, a murderer, or Bin Ladin! To say that any action can justify leaving the world humiliated, degraded, with people laughing at your pain, is sadistic. There is no divine justice in this, there's no moral retrabution, these are just a bunch of sick freaks who saw a person who was vunerable and took advantage of it for their own amusment.

I can't even believe someone could read a news article like this and have the thought cross their mind that the person deserved to die like this.
