I have a problem loading pages from YouTube including the home page. When I do, the YouTube page starts to load, then there's a click and it goes to a Quick! (www.quickbrowsersearch.com) page. This is a recent thing, which happened first when I followed a link on another forum to an article at Variety (www.variety.com). WHen that article was loading, my browser went a little crazy, clicking several times in a row and then that damn Quick! page showed up repeatedly. Since then, it does this with YouTube pages specifically.

Question: WTF is this? Is this a virus in my browser? Anyone have any experience with this? Suggestion as to what to do to correct it?

It sounds like your web page might have been hijacked. I have had that happen with Yahoo (which I usually have as my home page) before--my home page was hijacked.

I am guessing it cound be spyware.

You've been hijacked and need to find the problem via a good spyware program and delving into your taskmanager and registry for the culprit.

Oh, **** me! Thanks for the quick reply. I figured it was something like that. Dammit, my spyware protection is 3 years out-of-date. Anyone got suggestions for some good , up-to-date spyware removal programs?

The best ones really are free. Amazing how that is. Anyway, I use a bunch of them, because not everyone catches every infection. Here's a list of freeware apps you can use. http://www.techsupportalert.com/best_46 ... lities.htm

If you need others I will help you. Just give a shout out or PM. Hope you're spyware free soon!

I had a similar issue with Youtube, with it sitting for a long time trying to load "ad.doubleclick.net" so I went into my hosts file in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc and added a line at the bottom "127.0.0.1 ad.doubleclick.net" Problem solved. The problem seems to be gone after I formatted, so maybe it was spyware, which I find odd as I use Adaware and Spybot S&D, and my antivirus (Avast) scans for malware as well, but I guess the fact that it went away after a format is proof.

Edit: Note: I meant that it's gone after format whether I add that line to my hosts file or not.

Yep there is a lot of malware that is also spyware.

If in doubt don't click on anything.

Be careful some of the so called antispyware are also malware and spyware.

While I'm not entirely sure, I may have accidentally clicked on something in the banner ads on the Variety.com site when trying to scroll down befor ethe article was fully loaded. I never click on those ads intentionally, but accidents do happen. I reported this the forum where the Variety link was posted, and no one else has had this problem. Only me. So I'm thinking I must've done something unawares. Grrrr.

Been There - thanks for the first link. That's exactly what I have. Nice the know I'm not the only one that's been afflicted. That discussion led me to a MajorGeeks.com link for SpyBot and As Aware. I'm downloading SpyBot now - hopefully this will take care of it.

Geth this:

- Spybot - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spybot
- Ad-Aware- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad-aware
- Antivir- http://www.avira.com/de/pages/index.php

1. first you have to deaktivate the "systemwiederherstellung" (i don't know the english word for it). If you don't do this... .and the trojaner is in your boot system... the scans you will do are useless. After you "deaktivate" your "systemwiederherstellung".... see 2.
2. Than you must start your computer in "safe mode" - Press F8 while boot. With a PS2 Keyboard.
3. Scan with "Spyboot" and "Antivir" your computer.

Important: After cleaning your PC you have to aktivate the ""systemwiederherstellung" again.
Alternative: Backup all your stuff on a extern hraddrive... (but scan them first.)
The format c: and install Win XP new... or whatever you like.

Diver - thanks, but it seems SpyBot did the job. If not, I'll try your instructions.

By the way "systemwiederherstellung" in English is "system restore." I know German, but sometimes contemporary, technical words like that are hard to translate. One thing I do is I look up the German word in de.wikipedia.org, and pull up the article that has that word. Then I go to the Andere Sprachen list on the left side of the page, click on English and it'll bring up the en.wikipedia.org equivalent page. The German and English pages don't always have the same content, but they are similar enough usually for quick translations of technical terms.

Yes. i Think Spybot will do the. I would run "antivir" just in case. The "System Restore" Button is very important. I forget that. And couldn't kill the trojaner i once got on my PC. and i was just 1 click away. Thanks for the wiki tip. Thats usefull.
