Actually I believe that most of us are American, although I wouldn't say a vast majority. We've got quite a few Britons and Australians, too.

Here in Chicago it is 5:43 pm (17:43). We are GMT-5h right now, because of the stupid Daylight Savings Time. We can thank Ben Franklin for that one (even though the current enaction didn't occur until 1944, it was his idea that we adopt it in the first place). Normally we are GMT-6h.

I'm in America and I live with daylight savings time but I don't really understand it myself so I will let someone else explain it to you. :)

Daylight Savings Time is when during the summer months we add one hour to the actual time. So if it is actually 4:00 pm, the clocks read 5:00 pm. The idea is so that there are more hours of usable daylight as the sun rises earlier. A lot of people attribute it to farmers, but farmers were actually against it. The actual reason is so that the hours of operation at factories (this is before electric lights, remember) could be extended. It was enacted during World War II last time to help with the war effort, and it's just been in effect ever since.

It's 6:23 P.M. C.D.T. (central daylight time) here in St. Louis, Missouri. That's -05:00 UCT. When we go off daylight savings time in late October (although recent legislation has changed the duration of daylight savings time in the United States), I will be in the C.S.T. (central standard time) timezone (-06:00 UCT). I'd like it best if we were on daylight savings time year round because I don't get up early enough in the morning anyway!
