I've wondered whether Japanese people who'd be diagnosed if they lived in the US would even be noticed as different in their own country. It seems to me that Japanese culture is more introvert-oriented and eye contact is expected much less frequently. I would think that what would be considered a moderate or mild aspie in the US might be seen as normal in Japan.

Hello LoneWolf20.
I'm from the above mentioned country. However, I'm nothing but a typical example*.

[edit] Sorry I forgot to say welcome. Welcome!

[edit 2] *I meant to say either
1.I'm nothing like a typical example, or
2.I'm anything but a typical example.

I wouldn't know but there's someone I know from USA, who's a bit like me in some ways (though I'm a bad judge), and s/he said s/he feels a lot more relaxed here because you don't have to be as expressive as is expected in US.
I've been turning this over in my mind ever since I saw the post, and the above is just one 'anecdotal example' and it's too early to draw conclusion, but as far as I know you could be right.

I'm not Japanese but I am interested in Japanese culture and language as well. Good to know we have a common interest.

I'm not Japanese, but I lived there for three months, and I have to agree. It was one of the most relaxing three months of my life, because once you figured out the social rules, EVERYONE obeyed them. The language wasn't anywhere near as confusing as English, either; practically no slang (that I noticed). It was just a really easy place to live. I noticed my aspie traits a lot more immediately after returning from there than I ever had before, too.

I've often thought that an all-aspie society would somewhat resemble Japan culturally.

Well, I understand that the whole idea behind bowing is to give you a way to greet someone without coming into physical contact...so if we did invade Silicon valley and take it as our own little country, I could imagine such a method of introduction becoming a norm.

However, from what I've gleaned, I'm not sure how tolerant Japanese culture tends to be of "different" people. Would anyone here who's been to Japan know?

I know that this is completely out of place and out of content:

But a Japanese girl/women with Asperger's sounds hawt.

Okay, end rant.

Hey. I'm an NT from Jersey. The Japanese aspie girl couldn't make it, so she sent me instead.
