If I was a wealthy man I would buy the bellringers bells before doing my shopping.

I don't have a problem with the cause. But I cannot stand the random dosage of a bell ringing while I am shopping, it drives me insane. I can hear that bell all the way in the back of the store.

If it was a constant bell ringing, or predictable ring that would be OK I guess, but a random jingle here, and hard jingle, jingle there, with no pattern at all is causing me to avoid the store all together is possible.

Does anyone else get annoyed by that damn bell ringing? Can't they get prerecorded bell ringing that is predictable that keeps the workers hands free?

Best,

Idaho Aspie

I quite agree. I hate having to do any sort of shopping during the holidays.

It drives me absolutely crazy. I can't stand the sound, and I definitely shop online as much as possible because of this.
I don't know how things are in Idaho, but down here in Phoenix AZ they hire the underprivileged to ring the bells. With some of the bell ringers I've seen, sorry to say, it looks as though if they gave them a small stereo to play pre-recorded bells it would be hocked by lunchtime. This may not be true, but it is probably the thought process of the people doing the hiring.

You know...I was just thinking that the other day when walking into the store. I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one.
Rather of buying the bellringer's bell I'd rather just grab the thing and throw it across the parking lot. :D

One of my biggest pet peeves of all time. I think what they're doing is great, but can't they quit with the $#%ing bells!? I look for alternate entrances when I see them, or I just plug my ears and run for it. The sound goes right through me.

If they would play some nice holiday music or something, I'd probably give them something instead of avoiding them like the plague.

I hate the bells they ring...it's worse than nails on a chalkboard, I flinch everytime they ring, so I started doing this: the first thing I do, is go into the store, buy the bell ringer a hot chocolate, come back out, give the ringer a dollar for their pocket(they make people on welfare do the ringing in my city, and I know they force them, because no one looks that miserable if they volunteer) I give the bucket a dollar, and while they drink their hot chocolate, I shop....it took me about 30 years to figure out this clever solution...hahaha but---PROBLEM SOLVED! Sometimes I ask them if they prefer coffee or hot chocolate, and if they say coffee, I bring them packets of sugar and cream which they also have to stop ringing to put that in their coffee...am I brilliant or what?

That would be flawed thinking, considering if they were theives they would just steal the cash in the metal bucket, that would save the hocking too.

Yeah, play good holiday music. Better on the ears and head.

I'm in Phoenix too, and I noticed that when I went to Walmart (the store run by satan) the other day. You're probably right.

I've never actually seen a bell ringer on the street. There are charity cases to be sure, but they don't resort to making people's ears bleed (maybe the volunteers know how annoying the bell-ringing is, so they stopped).

On the other hand, our church has an entire bell choir. (that's different, though, because we actually make music with bells instead of just some guy randomly ringing a single bell)
