ok, I'm willing to admit that I can't get them to work...would someone explain this to me?

1. Click on Shades's link: http://www.alt-codes.net
2. Pick out whichever characters/symbols you want
3. Make a note of the number that goes with the symbol(s) you've chosen
4. To type the symbol, press and hold down the Alt key while typing its number
5. If you want the symbol to appear larger, put tags before & after: [size=24 ] [/size ] (only without the spaces)
6. Click the Preview button to see how your message will display
7. Don't be alarmed if code like &xyz; appears in your message body instead of the symbols

I tried, but I guess it doesn't work with laptops...*cries* I just want to make the little heart thingie.

Is Num Lock on, or off?

Hang on, you might need to have the numeric keypad to make it work, I just tried the number keys above the qwerty, and it didn't seem to do anything.

I tried turning on number lock, but it didn't seem to do any thing...

Oh well that would explain it...this doesn't have numeric keypad...guess I'll have to use the really slow computer. (takes about an hour to boot up) *cries* I hate that computer. sorry, mood swings are terrible today.

On the slow computer now...but the alt codes far outweigh my hatred of this wretched contraption.
