I've seen quite a few series already, but I'd be interested in hearing your recommendations. Also, where do you get your anime from?

I've only seen "death" of "death and rebirth," I'd like to see it in its entirety, though. I've seen End of Evangelion, and loved it. I own the DVD, and I watch the commentary by Amanda Winn Lee for kicks. If you haven't see it with the commentary, you really should, it's a completely different (and hilarious) experience.

I watched a bit of Hellsing, but it was with the worst subtitles imaginable. There were lines which were actually translated into sentences like this:
"I he you my are going to the with am his bank the."

I remember one line exactly, it was the main vampire guy speaking to the girl vampire, he said "Good boy" LOL.

Needless to say, I couldn't continue watching it like that.

What other series would you recommend? What are some of your favorites?

I generally like a sad and serious story with a good plot, and good character development. That's why I like Evangelion, Lain, Utena, and Haibane Renmei so much (those are my favorites). I'm not opposed to other genres, for example, I liked Fruit's Basket a lot, but I prefer more serious stuff. Philosophy, also.

The Hellsing was a bootleg copy my friend bought from China, because it was much cheaper than the liscenced one you can buy in the US. That's why the subtitles were so bad.

Venom- Akira and Ghost in the Shell are two of the main classics in epic, sci-fi anime. Metropolis is too but I havn't seen it.

Venom-

Out of your list, I've only seen Rahxephon. It's a decent series, I think it's best point is it's animation. It's often criticized, however, because that it is extremely similar to a very popular science fiction anime which came before it- Neon Genesis Evangelion.

If you haven't seen Evangelion, I highly recommend you check it out. It's currently my favorite series, and it's extremely well known within the anime community. The character development is excellent, and the "angels" (the attacking creatures) are of very interesting design. The Evangelions (the giant robots) are also very unique and interesting design. It has both psychological and religious themes, in addition to being a sci-fi robot series.

Berserk
Rahphexon
Now and then here and there
Full Metal panic

In Berserk: the castle town of Midland, a new king has come to power through treachery and violence. His demonic agents victimize the citizens, until one night, a mysterious warrior comes to destroy them. Known as The Black Swordsman, he has long held an unrelenting grudge against the king. Before the twilight of Midland, a young Mercenary named Guts fights for his fortune on the front lines. There he meets Griffith, who is charismatic, graceful, and deadly. Griffith's mercenary company, the Band of the Hawk, is a powerful military force and the talk of elite political circles. Between the strength of Guts' anger and Griffith's ambition, the face of Midland will never be the same.

in Rahphexon its like civet said it is a great anime series but there are so many fights with Rahphexon fans and Evangelion fans about its origin if you could pick one to watch first like civet go with Evangelion first Then Rahphexon

in Full Metal panic Deftly combining mecha combat, martial arts, international criminal intrigue, high-school politics and a dash of teen romance, Full Metal Panic! was enthusiastically received by viewers in Japan. The manga Full Metal Panic!, which was published in Japan before the release of the anime, has since November 2002 been appearing in serial form in Newtype USA magazine. The creative staff behind Full Metal Panic! is extraordinarily strong. The series was directed by Kouichi Chigara (Gate Keepers, Phantom Quest Corps) and produced by GONZO Digimation (Hellsing, Blue Sub No. 6). On the surface, Kaname Chidori appears to be a normal, popular high school student. The problem is, she doesn't realize just how popular she is. Unbeknownst to her, a group of terrorists believe she possesses the special powers of "the Whispered," and they're out to kidnap her. Enter Sousuke Sagara, a young, hotshot agent from the stealthy anti-terrorist organization Mithril. Will he be able to protect Kaname without her finding out what's really going on? Or will he just drive her crazy as he tries to fit in as her awkward, gung-ho, war-crazed classmate?

Sci-fi eh 8) here are a few Gundam,Robotech,Animatrix,Ghost in the shell,Cowboy Bebop,Escaflowne,Jin-Roh and there are many more if you want to know more titles let me know
