^^Yeah, her buddy was looking a little dry - think I would have given him/her/it a drink too.

Yves was pretty good too.

Wonder why they are called alternative? They all look fairly mainstream.

Well, she is sort of right about the M. C. Escher drawings.

Nah, when you start getting 'real' alternative you have someone pissing in a pickle jar after popping 3 Mega B Complexes and hanging a cross upside down in it or smearing feces on canvas. That kind of stuff I could really take a pass on myself.

You can probably call it 'alternative' as a term encompassing art with a similar style, like baroque or modernism, but it isn't alternative in the sense of being away from the mainstream; it's not unusual to find works similar to the above examples in museums. There probably is no such body of work that can be considered alternative in art anymore, for as the above poster indicates, almost anything can pass for art and be accepted into museums.

I think the real genius of his art is how he can stay true to his lines rather than getting lost on the binding sense of depth perception and perspective. Like with this particular drawing in particular, its probably the easiest of the three to see how he made the illusion happen. The aqueduct, if it were real, would be flowing well behind the building, but he was able to use the lines of the towers to keep re-including it and had the ability to do so without the thing tipping up on anything like a 70 or 80 degree angle. That kind of thing takes a lot of beating your own mind's tendency back and I almost wonder if he was wired a bit differently in terms of depth perception or if he really just decided to practice training himself to take it or leave it at will.
