I think there are far worse places to live. It looks to me that things are going to improve somewhat now that we have a new government - but that's probably for another thread.

One thing that really nicks me off is the dominant American influence in our popular culture. Most of the shows on TV seem to be US imports and the same goes for our music. It worries me that this influence seems to be at the expense of our own culture and I find it disturbing when people know more about American history than that of their own country. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for multiculturalism, but I doubt what I've just described falls under its definition.

Funnily enough, I can't watch American shows on TV.... I'm ok with movies but I can't handle the US versions of sitcoms and drama.

eg: In Law and Order, why does the programme have to go ba-boooommmm every few minutes. Do they think that it makes it more exciting on something?
