Transgender woman sues Catholic hospital, claiming discrimination

SAN FRANCISCO—A transgender woman is suing a Catholic hospital in Daly City, claiming medical officials blocked her from getting surgery there because she had a sex-change operation.

Fifty-seven-year-old Charlene Hastings already had one major surgery she needed to become a woman. But she says when she called Seton Medical Center to inquire about breast enlargement surgery, an official told her it wasn't "God's will" for her to get that treatment.

Hastings says her plastic surgeon told her Seton wouldn't allow him to operate on transgender patients there.

She filed the discrimination suit Dec. 21 in San Francisco Superior Court.

A spokeswoman for Daughters of Charity Health System, which runs the hospital, says the surgical coordinator was following hospital policy in refusing Hastings' surgery.

It's hardly as if they were denying her vital treatment, for god's sake. She went to a CATHOLIC hospital, and expected anything other than what she got?

Wait a minute This is the same Catholic church that has been sodomizing, raping, abusing and torturing children for decades now. And before that millions of *heathens* - by which a whole INQUISITION was formulated and demonically carried out, causing havoc and mayem in the lives of literally millions of human beings across the globe. So - I totally don't understand that logic to which you were inferring. Care to clarify?

A shedload of tele-evangelists make millions claiming otherwise. Praise the lord, bomb the abortion clinics, rape and pillage the rag heads and send me your life savings when you're done. Hallelujah, yada yada yada.

She shouldn't have gone to that hospital. It's like going to a hospital run by small children. Saying, "I don't like you! I'm going to see you go away! We won't take care of you here!" Only in religion, is this infantile mindset given respect.

I think that it's perfectly justified. Sex change surgery is a horrific crime against nature.

It's body modification. The hospital had every reason to deny that based on religious grounds, especially to someone who was born a male. He's not a woman at all.

I agree. If I were trans gendered I can't think of one single reason that would ever make me think I should walk into a Catholic hospital. Or a Catholic anything for that matter.

Edit: Actually, even without the trans gendered thing. Still makes me wonder... why? ::shudder::

And others haven't done that? You can single out any group of people and find instances where some of them have degraded others. It's human.

I really don't understand your logic, actually. The traditional Catholic religion believes that people should remain as they are born. Obviously, not everyone in the religion believes that, but the more orthodox do, and it's pretty safe to say that a hospital that is clearly labeled "Catholic" is going to follow the orthodox ways. How does that have anything at all to do with the things you mentioned?

I don't sympathize with the transgendered.

There are rape cases everywhere. There are people being raped right now.

Millions have been killed due to ideologies caused by single events. There are people dying right now over falsifications/misinterpretations of religious dogma,


but what does that have to do with some beast wanting breast implants?


That is unless, you believe that there are bands of Jesuits and Catholics secretly going out and committing every murder, and rape, as well as preventing helpless people in need of changing their sex.

And seriously, "beast"? Come now. I'm sure you do a lot of things we all don't know about that'd make you a "beast". Just 'cause you haven't done something physically drastic like getting a vajayjay (or peener? I don't know what gender you are). Seriously. You don't have to feel sympathy for someone doing something you don't agree with, but you definitely don't need to call names either -.-
