I don't know where to put this thread, So I put it here because it's a Language and you use writing...???

I have been studying the language, on and off, for about 5 years now And I would like to chat with people in Japanese.

日本語は話せますか。

So I can bring up my reading skills and vocabulary.

Any takers?

You would put this thread in the foreign languages thread.

I studied Japanese for a long time, and I've retained alot of it. Enough to hold a basic conversation and I can read hiragana\katakana, and a few kanji, not much tho.

Yeah it's way hard, I have a few books on it. Without a teacher it can be really really hard. There's so much meaning behind even a couple lines.

My favorite kanji is "to feel ashamed, shame, shy" which uses the symbols for ear and heart. "Breath" is a good one too, it's nose on top and heart on bottom, the meaning's a bit more apparent in that one.

I had an interest in Japanese when I was in junior high. I didn't learn much more than how to count to ten, however.
