my son gets things (movie clips or cartoons) stuck in his head. He's talked to me about it and I think it makes it hard for him to concentrate. It seems as if the only thing that prevents it is more tv.

it's a hard one, that's for sure.....hubby is most prone to this, although my son does it too. not just with tv, though. sometimes he'll meet someone & get something they say to him stuck in his head. the latest is : "keep your eyes on your opponent".

I've experienced this with myself and with my son. It's very hard to mentally block it [the perseveration] out at times.

My son gets songs stuck in his head. I turn on the XM Radio to the Classic music station and that frees up his mind to think about other things. I recently started doing this during his homeschool day and he gets more work done that way.

My son constantly talks to himself. Sometimes he's reciting favorite movie passages, sometimes he's carrying on a conversation with himself. I try to ignore it.

I like that term-earbug! It's also called an earworm. I get them all the time!

Sometimes they make me want to cut my own head off.

I didn't say he hears voices telling him to do things--this would really concern me. He gets images and song lyrics stuck in his head.

There is a difference. Autism is not psychosis.

I just realized that you probably meant that the repetition makes you want to disconnect from your body.

I read it as the voices want you to cut your own head off. Bizarre. Where is my head?

Phew--I was concerned for you.

My apologies.

No, I was speaking quite literally.

But don't worry. I'm unlikely to actually do it. I just think about it sometimes. ;)

I generally imagine I'm using a chainsaw. That seems like it would be the most effective method, don't you think?

I'm assuming, Julie, you aren't a parent. You're a bit too off the wall, laissez-faire in a macabre manner reserved for the young of heart, the childless young at heart.

I have had an earbug for 2 days.

It's the theme song to "Petticoat Junction"

Happily I can kill it for a while with a Wakeman piece named "White Rock"
