I as an American always hope that we will remain the superpower but as history shows us time and time again it wont happen so I was just wondering who you guys think will be the next global superpower, and maybe even when you see them come to power.

China

USA will decline over the next 100 years, and China will be there to take up the slack.

China, unfortunately, with its appalling Human Rights record, and unrestrained capitalism, coupled with unrestrained mass poverty.

Great future, isn't it? :D (SARCASM)

Why can't Europe be the superpower? We still have time. It will be a much brighter future: a worldwide health service (WHS), zero poverty, lots of socialism and democracy, and restrictions on business monopolies.

why does there have to be a superpower at all?

i vote for lichtenstein, simply due to the fact that you can hire the whole country for a bar mitzvah.

how fabulous is that? :D

I think that if the EU can agree and become more allied they could be the new superpower... but I dont see that happening. I see a new bipolarised world (no puns please!! !! !! !! !! !! !) with NATO on one end and China or India on the other, but I have no clue what will come out of that "cold war".

The assertion that China is governed by "unrestrained capitalism" is patently false. They are a communist country (if by name only). they have strong central planning and are closer to communism / socialism than europe is.

If China is a country of "unrestrained capitalism," then europe is governed by wild, unregulated capitalism and the united states cannot even be put on this scale! This is clearly not the case.

I'm really thinking that the next superpower is gonna take long enough to propogate that there may not be any tell-tale signs right now that would lead us to a good guess.

My bet right now is on India - they're tech and education oriented people who are willing to work as hard as they have to, much moreso that us and increasingly it seems like the Japanese are getting to be more like us in all the wrong ways as the generations go on. They have almost as many people as China and a major major difference in how things are done there - they aren't a communist country. Unless a country just has enormous millitary clout and military tech to follow it, communism is definitely going to be more and more of a losing strategy.

In the 21st century we may even see much stronger economies in places such as Senegal, Nigeria, and a lot of the smaller countries on the west coast of Africa. Even though they started a little behind the middle east in terms of institutionalism, it looks like they're accelerating better with technology and not having the kinds of religious tensions over it that the middle east is getting slowed down by. One thing I feel bad for Saudi Arabia on and a lot of countries over there, once we go over to hydrogen power and other such things, they're really gonna have to try hard to regain some special supply niche in the world market.

Most likely China, but we shall have to see over time. Communism is usually effective for an empire, but it won't do very well pleasing the people who actually live there... Either China or India. The US, Russia/USSR and Europe have been main super powers for the past few hundred years.

Well, Daniel prophesized that the EU will be a great world power. Daniel prohesized this in 586 B.C. when it looked like there would be no end to Babylonian power and he was right about the rise and fall of the Persians, Macedonians, and Romans (including their split in half), so I'd have to say that he has credibility when it comes to predicting Europe's eventual ascention as a superpower. The Bible alludes to many atrocities being comitted by the EU and it's allies during this period. There is also mention of China becoming a superpower as well in Ezekiel and Revelation. I'll have to check to see what Isaiah has to say about this period. Exekiel and Revelation also allude to the Arabs making a power grab, but that will end when they get anhilated by Israel because of their failed invasion attempt. The Bible speaks clearly that after the Arabs are no longer a factor, both the EU, China, and their remaining respective allies will mobilize their armies to try and seize control of the Eastern Hemisphere. This battle is supposed to take place at Meggido, Israel, where the ancient land trade routes to Africa, Asia, and Europe are still strategically important to this day.
