Might I say we have some sh***y luck with 1/4 percent the chance of girls having aspergers syndrome ... heh
First, welcome :-)
Second, actually, there are beginning to be more and more suspicions that females have a much higher incidence of Aspergers than previously assumed. They just go about it differently.
For instance, I think most females fail the diagnosis because they appear to be more social than males - MUCH more social in many cases. However, that may be simply the fault of our gender-based rearing. It is very likely that a female will be FORCED to be social, when she finds out what's expected of her by her parents and others. This does not mean that she will be BETTER at it than a male, just that she'll TRY much harder. It's probable that most females are being forced/coerced/cajoled into compensating for their normal aspie tendancies.
An asocial female is likely to have even fewer options in life than an asocial male.
My own Beloved, for instance, is desperate to be included in all the social interactions rampant in her workplace, but spends most of her spare time very sad, since she can never understand why she's repeatedly rejected by the majority of her workmates. And she is currently halfway through her Masters Degree in Counseling.
I believe that someday the diagnostic guidelines will have to be totally revamped. I think the current guidelines are almost more of an indication of how difficult we are to measure than of what's really happening in our minds.
So, I strongly doubt the incidence of female Aspergers is that low. I think there are a lot of girls thinking (as the males did years ago) that they are just weird and inadequate and deserve the worst in life.
