I dont think many people have sen this movie. WHen it was out, most critics panned. But I LOVE it. It did take me about 2 times to actually appreciate it for it's worth. I think what most people where thinking when they say this was "Oh no, another futristic tale about a totalitarian government yada yada..." But the concept of no emotion- it still confuses me. How can one not show ANY emotion...seemed to me like Taye Diggs character got excited sometimes, and the minister seemed to show fear.... bu it was still interesting to see the concept in a movie like this. Bale made the film, as usual.

Anyone else like it/hated it?

loved it... and I feel like it is close to where we are headed... I mean the sheer amount of psychotropic drugs that are fed to children for being *different* is sickening to me.

Also I love the dance gunfighting, it was intoxicating.

I loved Equilibrium, except for the ending, which was a little cheesy.

I found it one of the most overrated movies ever. Sooo many people said it was so good, but I hated it. The plot was repetitive as hell and just basically a rehash of every 1984-inspired sci-fi ever made. The gun-kata was cool but it was ruined by the constant shaky camera. The film played out to me like this: "Slownes...slownes...slowness...SUPERFASTACTIONSEQUENCEWHEREYOUCAN'TSEEWHAT'S GOING ON...slowness...slowness...scene that really drags on and on....SUPERFASTACTIONSEQUENCEWHEREYOUCAN'TSEEWHAT'S GOING ON!" Repeat another few times. Bottom line, the film bored the crap out of me. The director's next film, "Ultraviolet," was even worse, though.

I loved it! Great action scenes and surprisingly well written. I would've loved to see how Kurt Wimmer would have evolved the Gunkata. It's a shame that the studio tampered with Ultraviolet and ruined any chance of him working again.

I loved Equilibrium. I saw it about 5 times in the cinema because I insisted on taking everyone I knew to watch the movie in person (since I doubted they would remember if I just told them to go see it). Call me obsessive, but that film deserved as much attention as possible.

It's just a shame that Ultraviolet was a crappy bigger budget clone. I actually rented the DVD as soon as I found out that it was a Kurt Wimmer. What a dissapointment. Some of the sci-fi concepts were pretty neat, but the plot (vampires vs the pharmaceutical companies?) was just shocking.

1984 is the original, great movie (very good actors)
equilibrium is fun too (I liked it a lot), but it is more an action movie, unlike 1984 were you really get the idea of a totalitarian government.

But have you seen Brazil (by Terry Gilliam), thats a great movie too about a government in total control of societe (its more a visual and fantastic movie)?

True, the concept has been done again and again in books, movies, etc...but it's fun to see what different people beleive to be essential to society (sex, emotions, childbirth etc) and how they are portrayed in the future. :D

True, 1984 is a very different film/book, but just in terms of story countless sci-fis have had achingly similar "totalitarian government" type plotlines, and "Equillibrium" just didn't have enough original plot ideas in there to make the story interesting to me. If the story had been REALLY well told that wouldn't have mattered, but I didn't like the way the story was told. If the only really original idea you have in there is martial arts with guns, then you could at least focus on having nonstop kickass action sequences...but the slow pace and shaky camera botched that, too.

I have not yet seen "Brazil," but I intend to...I love Terry Gilliam movies.

Anyway, all that said, I'm glad everyone else likes the movie--better to enjoy a film than to find it a waste of time. XD
