Are you superstitious?

I consider myself to be an agnostic (most of the time) and prefer science over religion, but I can't help certain superstitious thoughts from creeping into my head at times.

How about you? Do you simply deny something if it isn't scientifically proven or if there isn't a scientific answer? Or do you believe in it but don't tell anybody?

No, I do not. I am an agnostic as well, though I do not outright deny something that isn't scientifically proven. Granted, I won't accept it either, but I will analyze it and see if it's logically viable. That's really what agnosticism is about; it's about accepting that there is no proof, and thus, no reason to deny as well as accept (god, in this case). I really try not to "believe" in anything, really; I either see it as a valid notion, and invalid notion, or I am unsure. Obviously I believe to see something as valid or invalid, but I form that opinion out of logical analysis.

I know, I'm a lot of fun at parties.

I had been partially agnostic after my dad died. Frankly, if I see no logical reason to accept something, I just cannot. As C.S. Lewis said, "My heart cannot accept what my mind rejects."

Agreed 100%.

And C.S. Lewis is one of my favorite writers.

I tend to do that too...but what if it's a bit, um...crazy? And you sort of believe in it, even if you know it's irrational?

I'm agnostic, superstitious, and VERY spiritual.

My superstitious beliefs are worsened with serious OCD problems.

I'm agnostic and not really superstitious. Occasionally I catch myself having a superstitious thought (e.g. believing in Murphy's Law), then the logical part of me takes over and kicks the superstitious part of me in the shins.

I don't see myself as a spiritual person, I never was...are your superstitious beliefs linked to you being spiritual?
Or is it something on its own?

And yes, I find OCD worsens practically everything.

Yes, it's an occasional thing for me too. It doesn't make sense, but it just happens. I usually try to block such thoughts, but my somewhat obsessive thinking gets in the way at times...

I'll generally override it. For a while I believed I had seen a ghost after catching the vivid reflection of a fleeting figure in a dark window. I wasn't lying when I would tell to people, but then I came to realize that I am subject to minor aural and visual hallucinations. Sometimes I need to logically choose between whether to mark something up as an unexplainable supernatural phenomenon, or a mere neurological anomaly.

I'm agnostic (sort-of... the truth is I don't care either way) and definitely not superstitious.

On the other hand, I know deep down that I caused the Patriots to lose the Super Bowl... I recorded the Super Bowl on DVD, cutting out all the commercials, just so I could enjoy the Pats victory over and over and over... sigh...

I've had a similar experience, but these hallucinations would happen after an ill slept night. I would blame them on my not sleeping enough, but truth is now I've been sleeping too much. They happen less, much less, but it still happens. Probably something wrong there, I don't know...

Maybe I'm just tired, even though I've been sleeping like hell.

I know nothing. I work stuff out as I go. It's a lot like a puzzle. I don't like it when pieces don't fit. I put those pieces away, and every once in a while, I see if I can use them for something. If not: I put them away again.

I'm athiest and superstitious, which I guess makes me a hypocrite of sorts. But I wasn't an athiest all of my life, so maybe it's just the remainders of childhood, and furthermore I'm not a slave to superstitions. I'm not afraid of bad luck, I just like to increase good luck, IE if I have no choice but to walk under a ladder or eat 13 dumplings, then whatever.
