I was wondering it's common for people with Aspergers to be an complete and utter perfectionist. I don't have OCD (but I do have NOS Anxiety), but I have an extremely hard time handing something in if I don't think it's perfect. I'll take hours making sure that something is written property, and I feel like a failure if I don't. Is this normal for us, or am I just too paroid for my own good? (It could be both :P)

I was just wondering because I know Aspies have SOME OCD like tendancies, but I don't think that it's as bad as this...it's very annoying to always have extensions!

Can't say if I'm AS or not, but I used to be a perfectionist when it came to school work. When it comes to my hobbies, I still am, but it is also to such an extent that I often become intimidated when starting projects and also never complete anything as more and more new information is always becoming available.

It is easy to get overwhelmed.

I get the same way with hobbies, though it's lessened over the years. I used to be completely obsessed about the game Pokemon, and I would talk about it ALL THE TIME. Now I just obsess over situations and that completes my need to obsess about something :D

Yes and no.

If it is something like an essay, I will constantly edit the damn thing, but once it is done, I wont ever look at it again--even if I missed a few mistakes.

When it comes to music, I have yet to complete a song because they're all a work in progress. Despite having it "completed". :?

Perfectionist here. I'm always looking out for how to do things better. I've played guitar 5 years and know only about 11-12 songs by memory. I spend the rest of the time doing exercises.

I am a perfectionist - it causes significant problems - I take too long researching information (must make sure I have checked every possible source), edit words/paragraphs and structure over and over, write too many words, etc. I think it may be as much to do with poor self-esteem, hence a fear of failure.

Oh yeah, me too. Even writing this response, is a pain in the ass. Luckily, in my trade, perfectionism is a plus.

When I was at primary school I was a perfectionist.

I remember crying in class once because I scored 99/100 in a spelling test. I used to want to do EVERYTHING right and EVERYTHING had to be perfect or it wasn't good enough and I was convinced that I failed. If I was struggling in class I would sit there and sob silently to myself because I knew that I wasn't going to score top marks.
At intermediate school...I didn't cry when I was having trouble...but tried over and over again until I got what I was doing 100% right, even if it took me the whole lesson.

I still am a perfectionist to a certain extent....but no where near to what I was as a young child.

I used to be a perfectionist but I'm not anymore. I learned to live with things can be out of place and not have it bother me. But my spelling still has to be correct, if I misspell something, I hate it. I go back and correct it if I still can.

Been to the psych. ward several times when I was young but AS nor OCD was ever mentioned. Nonetheless, I know I have obsessive tendencies, not sure if it comes from the AS I assume I have or if I have OCD too. But yes, perfectionism much. A lot of times if I decide I can't do something perfectly (don't have enough time or the right resources) I just won't do it at all, no matter how much I want to.

I was a perfectionist really only as a child when doing what I enjoyed back then the most, building forts and go-carts and those had to always be perfect in measurment and all.

So my buddies who were helping me always got pissed and said stuff like 'the world is not perfect' and that it did not have to be 100% strait. Now as an adult I chilled out quite alot, learned enough to know I dont have to be perfect too much stress for something that is really not a huge deal.

Yes. When I write something, especially if it's to be handed in, it has to come out perfect the first time, or it doesn't come out at all. I try most techniques against writer's block, but it's difficult to get started all the same.

It's a pain in the a**.

Yep, guilty as charged, I'm a perfectionist too.

Always striving to do something the 'right' way, paying minute attention to details, spending hours of time working on the most inane elements of a project, throw distraction and communication problems into the equation and things become pretty daft.

I have terrible problems with employing a 'fire fighting' approach to remedial fixes in my job (web design & development), so everything takes me ages to do and I've difficulty accepting the perceived lower standards of my colleagues.
