My younger son has been in special education for a specific learning disability (in the written expression area) since second grade. This year (seventh grade) he started in the aspie/autie program.

My experience, even with the SLD teachers who had no special training in ASD, is that they were empathetic enough to realize that hugs and too close of contact didn't cut it with him. They seem more open to the idea that each student is an individual and should be treated as such.

He's had some wonderful teachers over the years. Unfortunitily, sometimes they are limited in what they can do because of inflexable administratiors or programs.
