Hi there its Preston (geowhizkid26),
Is anyone on this board from Louisiana? The reason why I ask is that
I may end up coming to Louisiana Tech in Ruston near Shreveport to
get my master degree. I would like to get some connections about
Asperger's if possible in Louisiana....so whether you're a Cajun
queen or a Northern Louisiana visitor, please respond so I can see
who you are.
Thanks
Preston from San Jose, California

All right, NanoTy, I take that as a personal insult, telling me what
I should do.
I have lived in California for 26 years, and first of all, I am really tired
of the politics, morals, big urban lilfe, people, and the skyrocketing
house prices in California and I want to leave here. Secondly, best
education system...ha, don't make me laugh. Have you ever been to
California even? From the looks of it, I seriously doubt it. If California
is so great, what are you doing at Georgia Institute of Technology,
may I ask?? I hold a BA degree from a California State University, and
I have been to more than one state university in California. You don't
even know what are you talking about. Thirdly, the expense of living
in a college is ridiculous here. I have calculated it would cost me
$10,000 to be in the college that I graduated from in the Central
Valley of California, and it would be $12,000 going to Louisiana
Tech. Please tell me why it costs almost as much to go to a university
in a state where I am a resident of as to go to a university in a state
I am NOT a resident of. Fourthly, my GPA is not the best in the world,
and all California State University colleges require that you need a
3.00 GPA to get into their graduate programs, which I DO NOT have.
I had a 2.72 GPA graduating with a major in geography in 2000. I
probably have a 2.85 GPA now because I took some classes at
community college to "jack up" by GPA. But in La Tech, all I need
is a 2.5 GPA and 21 units in history to be guaranteed admission into
the program. At the school I graduated from, it would have been
a 3.0 GPA to get in, and even then, no guarantee that I would be
formally admitted into the program. I think I am doing the right
thing. I have listed more than four reasons why I want to go to Louisiana.
If you can't accept that, then you need to ask yourself what are you
trying to do.
Bottom line: be careful where you throw your stones.
Nonetheless, I'll end by saying blessings to you.
Best of luck
Preston from California
BTW - I have decided I would not live in California ever if I find a job
somewhere else. I've been looking at upstate South Carolina -
Greenville/Spartanburg, for a very long time, and the perfect
opportunity to pop up.

Check the Member's Locations thread in the Stats forum.
I will have another update as soon as possible, been busy elsewhere online. Some updates with this and other stats will be more frequent than other times. I hope everyone understands.
I am very sorry, I did not mean to insult you at all. I have an older sister who is about to graduate from the University of Texas and could participate in the finest graduate programs in the nation. Instead, she has chosen to become a teacher of minority students in New Orleans and plans to get a master's of education at a primarily black college there. Her reasoning for choosing this route seems a bit illogical, but she refuses to alter her plans. Your post seemed uncannily familiar to me when the University of California has a number of renowned campuses that dominate the top ten list of the best public universities year after year. I agree with all of your reasons, especially with not wanting to live in California. Unfortunately, I may have to live there myself, as that is where many of the jobs that I am interested in are located.
So you are considering living in South Carolina. Sounds good to me, as my family has lived in the South for centuries.
By the way, just to clear up the questions you posed, I have been to California and Georgia Tech is a top tier university with one of the nation's best engineering programs.
Again, I apologize if I caused you any anger and hope that you have a succesful career as a history professor.
Big welcome to the bayou state when you get here Geo. I'm from the southern portion of Louisiana, and as far as asperger stuff goes....well it's kind of hit and miss. Most of the Aspie stuff you get is geared toward children, and their families. Adult aspies' are on their own. However, at some point I'd like to see that change. None the less I continue to look for aspie stuff here in the land of crawfish, so I'll see if I can find something up their in Ruston.
Anything you need just ask.

Hi there
Ghost - what portion of Southern Louisiana do you live in? I am sort of
familiar with the southern portion of Louisiana too. Being of course
that I have a BA in Geography and I collect road maps. In fact, I just
got a map (not the best map in the world) of Morgan City, Louisiana,
just yesterday in the snail mail. I do wish to visit the Southern bayou
region too, but don't know if I'll have a chance when I go to Louisiana
Tech (I haven't made up my mind yet, but mostly likely going there)
since La Tech is in the northern part of the state in Ruston. I do want
to visit Acadian Louisiana pretty badly though. I am familiar with
Morgan City and Houma (pronounced Ho-ma, as in Oklahoma, I
learned last week) and Thibodaux. A lot of Acadians have names like
Verret or Broussard (a very common name, there's a city near
Lafayette called Broussard. Anyway, feel free to email me back
when you get a chance my email is [email protected].
Nano Ty - apology accepted. I understand what you mean. But I
would not be able to get into the University of California system. Yes
UC is a good system. My cousins went to UC Davis and my brother
who is a computer programmer graduated from UC Santa Barbara.
My GPA though is not high enough to get into UC, and not even into
the CSU master degree programs. In the lousiest (excuse me)
Cal state campus, where I graduated from (I mean lousiest
academically), they still require a 3.0 to get into their master
degree program. I love Georgia - I have thought of moving to
Peachtree City, are you familiar with PTC? Nice area with good
schools. In fact, I've been looking all over the southern piedmont
for places to live in a stretch from Atlanta through Greenville
through Charlotte. I do want to move somewhere in that region
eventually, although if I get a job as a community college teacher,
I may not be able to be so choosy.
Well anyway take care both of you and have fun!!
Warm regards
Preston from California
I live in Lake Charles in the southwest portion of Louisiana. Lived here practically all my life. I I don't care for it, and want to move. I went to Minnesota for a few months, but things did not work out, so I'm back here....BLEH! It's winter and so warm I am wearing shorts. I hope this is not a forebearing on what summer will be like! I am so sensitive to heat and humidity.
I live in Arkansas now but I grew up in Alexandria,LA (right smack dab in the middle of the state). There is a place there called St. Mary's that my brother lived at for years. It has grown and changed alot since then and now focuses on autism spectrum disorders. They would probably have some information concerning help and resources in that area. I would check it out. They might have a website too.
