I read on Neuro-Diversity that Thom Yorke is believed to have AS. I've always found them to be the music that sums up AS and how it feels. What do you think.

i love their music but most of the time i find it too intense to listen to. i can only play them when i'm feeling fairly happy- any less than that then i'm in danger of being completely pushed over the edge! the same goes for certain songs by the smiths.

my favourite track is lucky (i used to have the single but my dad nicked it!). what's yours, tom?

hmm, probably my Iron Lung! I love the Smiths too! Morrisey is always named as a suspected aspie on foums also.

i'd be suprised if morrisey was an aspie... he's always just seemed like a bit of a grumpy b*****d to me! i wouldn't like to meet him- even though i agree with his views on animal rights- i'm sure he would find something to shout at me about!

the smiths song that really gets to me is "i know it's over." even when i'm in a good mood hearing that song makes me cry like a baby. embarrassing, but true.

I'm listening to Hail to the Thief (The Gloaming) as I write this.

i'm so f... oops, jolly speeeeecial!

"stop me" has to be one of my favourites to sing along to, though.

I've always been especially partial to the song "True Love Waits." It's a shame they haven't recorded a studio version yet. :(

I'm not living
I'm just killing time
Your tiny hands
Your crazy kitten smile
Just, don't leave
Don't leave

Vetivert, you're like the big sister I never had!

Ghotistix, every time I read one of your posts it reminds me that I still want to get into Sigur Ros.

Radiohead has always been one of my favorite bands.
They got me through the nightmare that was college.
And I finally saw them at Madison Square Garden a couple years ago.

True love waits is an awesome song. I first heard it as an instrumental piano arrangement by this guy. http://www.truelovewaits.cc/ All of his covers are incredible.

Then I heard the one with the lyrics and it was equally awesome.
I've got it on a playlist with a couple others you might also enjoy.
"Gagging order" and "Fog again"

Sigur Ros are amazing too. I spent many winter afternoons just laying on the couch listening to them. I always meant to try and find the translations but never did.

I love Radiohead, Creep has so got to be the Aspie anthem. Anything from OK Computer is fantastic too. I'm not sure about the recent stuff, somehow the magic is not quite there.

I wouldn't say the more downbeat stuff drives me over the edge though, for me it's about matching my mood at the time. If I'm feeling all happy, happy, joy, joy then I may listen to a bit of Kylie (the later dancey stuff) but when I feel like the world is just so wrong (which is often!) then you just can't beat Radiohead, although Nick Cave is pretty cool too. The intense music and lyrics from the dark side of life really chimes with me for some reason.
I doubt Nick Cave is an aspie though, just doesn't seem that way, I love his music though. Thom York, aspie or very close to it, no doubt about it.

Whatever makes you happy
Whatever you want
You're so f**king special
I wish I was special

But I'm a creep
I'm a weirdo
What the hell am I doing here?
I don't belong here
I don't belong here

Perfection! :D

yes, i agree.

although cave's music will always be remembered for being dark and moody, people often over-look his brilliant sense of humour in songs such as lay me low, o'malley's bar and god is in the house.

i particuarly love this verse from the curse of millhaven:

"Since I was no bigger than a weavil they've been saying I was evil
That if "bad" was a boot then i'd fit it
That I'm a wicked young lady, but I've been trying hard lately
O f**k it! I'm a monster! I admit it!
It makes me so mad my blood really starts a-going
La la la la, la la la lie
All God's children have all got to die."

but my favourite cave song, of all time, is (are you) the one...? another depressing song that triggers a powerful emotional response in me.

"oh, we will know, won't we?
the stars will explode in the sky
but they don't, do they?
stars have their moment- then they die."
