My son got in trouble in school today for stimming. Specifically, he was humming. His teacher wrote me yet another note, so I am emailing her AGAIN tomorrow, since she doesn't have a clue.

I rock back and forth, usually. But I also shake my feet and legs too.

I twittle my pencil around all my fingers. I also have a bad habbit of shaking my legs but it calms me down.

Yes, everyone finds that I do this very irritating. I am a chronic pencil twirler.
When I'm not twirling my pencils, my stim of choice is playing with my fingers. Always has been. I wiggle them, I tap them nonsensically, I crack my knuckles, I fiddle with change in my pocket, I pop them in directions they shouldn't go. I like to go through them one by one, popping them out of their sockets with my thumb.

Spinning can be a lot of fun too, but that one's a bit...conspicuous, shall we say? I also bit my lip and try to just barely tear off the top layer of skin. I've been made fun of for tapping my feet "randomly" as well.

My son used to stim that he was the Evil Emperor from STAR WARS with lightning shooting from his finger tips!

Two things
1 - my son stopped 95% of his 'stimming' after he went on the drug Concerta (it's like a Ritalin)
2 - you HAVE TO express to your sons teacher that HE WILL get better, but HE CANNOT CONTROL WHAT HE IS GOING THRU right now

I roll my fingers and tap my toes. If I need to be fairly still I stand on one foot for a minute with the other is on top making a cross alternating frequently and count doubling from 1 - near infinity and back to 1. I have recently learned to "dive" into the abyss of silence and block out my environment to a large extent when the stimuli is too much to handle. Meditation works wonders for my processing difficulties.

If I can walk then I'd walk to stim.

But if I can't then I bounce my leg or sit there and move my hands in a non conspicous way.
