Why is it that in my tiny country (New Zealand) I get all sorts of early intervention and treatment and appointments with pysch and paed for FREE yet people in other much bigger countires have to pay!
It makes me real mad that I hear of people in the USA, Australia, Canada not being able to afford appointments or treatment for their children yet if I want one I just need to pick up the phone, all free all thru the public system here!! !! !
ok vent over :D

I think the UK is only just getting up to spead in providing services. The situation in the US seems patchy at best and it's upsetting [to put it mildly] to me to see people who can't afford even basic health care.

Oh sorry I forgot about the UK as well.
It just seems so unfair and can't think of other word to describe it.
The only thing I have to get funding for is respite care. All the 'professional' support if free and we only have around 4 million people here.
Even here in my city with around 100,000 people we now have a centre dedicated to people (not just kids) battling autism/asperger's.

EVERYONE should be able to get support and treatment and it should be FREE!! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !

America, at least, is controlled by corporations. So the gov't isn't going to spend money on mental health care because they are too busy doing favors for their buddies at the oil companies.

100,000 people means about a 1000 on the spectrum... The UK has 60 million people, 600,000 people on the spectrum and only 1 specialist ASD [private] hospital www.brookdalecare.co.uk . Am I angry? Oh yes I am! So is the National Autistic Society www.think-differently.org.uk

Mom2ASDboy, can I come over? :) btw, I think that it's great that you are on this site, your son is very lucky.

I'm one of those that have to pay and after spending a small fortune on 4 different professionals (they all "guessed" other things but no-one mentioned AS) , I diagnosed myself correctly.

Yeah, it doesn't seem fair does it? :( Denmark is much like NZ in this regard, and I am very thankful for that, but sometimes I feel bad for having gotten everything easier than so many others.

I think it costs for an adult seeking a diagnosis in New zealand though. Correct me if I am wrong.

I am not sure. My nephew got diagnosed with AS when he was 19 or 20 and my sister made no mention of any costs.

Paperplate, sure come on over :D We have ALOT of South Africans here already so one more will be ok

If there was anyway I could get to NZ legally, I would be on my way. Probably somewhere on SI, preferably cold with lots of snow in winter and not too hot in summer. My dogs want to know are there RABBITS to chase? If not, they dont want to go...
