I wonder how many of the people here (who are mostly with AS and related issued) did attempt to take their own life.

Thought about it.
Never attempted.
At least on purpose(!?)

why would you want to kill yourself but not want to die, that makes no sense whatsoever

but anyway, i have strong urges to do so, probably will act on them someday, but as of now, no

I knew some people who would more or less fit that criteria. Basically at the time of doing that one understands that he is risking death but is hoping that he would survive / be helped by others and would see if anyone will care / give attention / etc.

I had a plan on May 5, 2003 but I made a mistake in my preparations and upon realizing this I took the easy way out and went to work instead.

I say that with a note of humor. Might not be that funny to anybody else, I suppose.

Currently I'm finding beauty in pain. And beauty by itself as well. That combined with a bit of detachment now and then is enough to give life an edge over his competitor for the time being.

Either that or the victim is so utterly confused and lost in a haze of emotional agony that they are unable to think beyond the next moment and simply react by attempting to alter their reality in the only way they can; by destroying their ability to perceive it.

People in such situations are not fully aware of their own motives for taking suicidal actions. Put simply, they are in Hell, searching for an exit; not even aware of where it will take them. Not even able to care.

Completely emotionally destitute. It’s not about wanting to die; just wanting the pain to end.

But then, maybe that was just me.

The poll lacks an option for seriously considering suicide, but never attempting it.
I would have fit that criterion when I was in grade 8.

I regularly injure myself by hitting walls, but not for the purpose of injuring myself but rather in order to train my fists and get used to pain (might come in handy one day)

Many, many a serious time. Don't know why I'm still alive. Never wanted to be, and now I'm stuck. Guess I'll just have to settle with slowly drinking myself to death, while putting cigarettes out on my arm during the really bad times.

Never wanted this.

I've done so, by swallowing 15 of my mum's vitamins, at the age of 15. My mum asked me why I've taken that many pills. I didn't want to tell her the truth, so I've told her, that I took that many, to get high.

I only considered it when I was younger and was badly bullied. After those people were out of the picture, I never considered it again. By then, I had a cat who was my best friend for 20 years, a beautiful Lynx point Siamese named Samantha. She saved my life and enhanced it.

No, but I have a huge scar on my wrist as a result of putting my arm through a window and it looks as if I have attempted. 132 stitches total inside and out and it would have done the job if I wasn't rushed to the hospital so quickly.

Did you know one of these will do well in excess of 100mph??

EDIT cause I have nothing else to do with my hands at the moment and it's driving me nuts:

I have experienced suicidal thoughts in the past during deep depressions, but only now do I recognize that urge to drive into oncoming traffic. hmmmmm...

Death brings sorrow to those who love and care for you including friends.

My high school just suffered the loss of two good students recently and the whole OP community is coming together for a candlelight thing. Though I didn't know the two but its saddening to lose people like that.
