I think it should, if for no other reason than the fact that the decision to eradicate it would be forced on those of us that just want to be left alone.

A hate crime is a crime that is done out of hatred and forces other people to be treated as inferior.

Groups like Autism Speaks have said they envision a future where autism doesn't exist (check out my other thread to see what I mean).

They sound like they discriminate against autistics

You bet it should! What a great way to send a message to NT's that we are NOT "brain damaged", or any other like phrase.

I voted no, just because your wording is wrong. It's called "genocide".

I agree, but that's not what groups like Autism Speaks are calling it. They're calling it finding a cure

I think that it is a hate crime.

I'm not so sure. If so, why do I see and hear so much about finding a "cure"?

btw, when I hear that sort of thing, it sounds to me like how the early Americans tried to "cure" the Indians of their dark skin color.

Yes it is a hate crime, hidden under the thin vial of arrogance that breeds patronisation and snobbery.

Well, technically it is a hate crime.

Yet these groups still manage to get on the air saying that Autism should be cured and scaring people.

I heard a PSA from Autism Speaks on the radio that did just this.

I mean, legally they seem to get treated like they want to help us, but those of us that don't want to be cured are not exactly given any attention.

Ya, that's the kind of stuff that needs more awareness.

There's enough of us that we should be able to make some noise. I think we should form some sort of mass movement to bring attention to the fact that sending a negative message about autistics is not the way to go.

"Hate crime" is the wrong term and using it doesn't make sense so I suggest people find another word (even genocide is more applicable).
