Just wondering if there's anyone into aviation or has a pilots license or perhaps is employed in aviation....

Oooo I am certainly an enthusiast. I've only had a couple of lessons though so certainly no expert in flying itself.
I like commercial jets rather than anything military.

Me, me, me!! !

I LOVE flying. I only have 25 hours but then I stopped because I ran out of money. It was a huge obsession for a long time. Where do you fly out of? I used to fly out of Caldwell in NJ (I was living in NYC).

I used to fly and instruct out of FRG in Farmingdale, Long Island. Havent flown in like 2-3 years.

I agree, it is very expensive to take lessons. For me to go from student pilot to acquiring all of my ratings and certificates up to CFI, took 6 years in total. I had to wait until I had more money to spend between each rating.

So you've got 25 hours huh?

What kind of stuff did you do. Im guessing some stalls and steep turns and maybe turns around a point or something.

Here's a couple of message boards that I frequent alot. Right now it seems like flightinfo.com its down due to tech difficulties, but its a good site. Both have pilots of varying experiences, from student pilot to crusty old airline pilots flying 747s and 777's.

You may be able to get what's called a SODA or Statement of Demonstrated Ability. It's a medical waiver which allows you to obtain a medical under certain provisions. This can be discussed with an AME or Aviation Medical Examiner who is essentially a doctor who is certified to also conduct pilot medicals.

There are three types of medicals, first beingthe most stringent. It is very possible you may qualify for a Third Clas Medical which would entitle you to pilot a plane by yourself.

I used to fly planes. I only have around 40 hours but that was over a long period of time so I didn't solo because I was too scared. At one time I wanted to be an airline pilot but I can't because of my mental health problems. I used to fly Cessna 150's and 172's. Believe it or not, I am female and interested in planes. I would love another flying lesson. The last time I flew a plane was around 2003. I also build model airplanes. I love the balsa wood ones. I don't like to fly them in fear that they will break after putting that many hours into it.

Not a pilot, only a student skydiver. :D

But currently taking a break from the sport while my life sorts itself out. Hope to get jumping again next summer. :D

Does a couple of hundred K $ invested count as an obsession? If so count me in.

when i was younger it was my dream. I would still love to be an airline pilot even but i think it would require to much dedication. How would you go about doing this in the UK with no previous experience?

Thanks

Ooh, me too! I have a commercial rotorcraft-helicopter license (instrument rated) with a little over 200 hours, and am sl-o-o-o-owly working towards my CFI. I tried for a fixed-wing add-on rating, but the money ran out around 15 hours in.

I know that the first step for new pilots in the US is to become a flight instructor, but I'm really not looking forward to that. Instructors are supposed to project confidence and competence, which I don't think that I can manage very well. Plus, the thought that another person's life may depend on my communications skills is just terrifying. The anxiety of it is causing me to drag my heels in getting that last certification...

I know I'll have to deal with it sooner or later. That student loan won't pay for itself, after all.

I looooove planessssssss, and plan on getting my pilots license after I have saved up enough to get it in one fell swoop...

I'm in mechanical engineering so that I can *hopefully* get a job working on the planes :D (went for aerospace engineering, but switched for numerous reasons, but mechanical can still work on planes~)

I like military planes more than commercial... and found a website where you can buy some *whistle* so someday in about 5-10 years when I save up enough money, I'm gonna go for it \(^_________^)/

I don't wanna fly for any commercial reason, just solo for fun ^_^ (or maybe bringing friends places :P) which means my dayjob has to support me (and pretty darn sure that engineering will be capable of that)

I'm a 60 y/o guy who was recently diagnosed with ADD (been off in la-la-land all my life), and BOY! do I love airplanes!! My father had his private when I was 7-9 y/o and owned a 1948 65hp Luscombe. Pretty much every weekend he'd take me up... During and after my time in the Army, I started taking flying lessons, twice, both times ran out of $$$ just before solo'ing.. Now I just satisfy my love with XPlane/FlightGear on the computer and sitting at the viewing area at the airport...
