The only time I hand flap is after telephone conversations. It's more out of frustration than joy.

I do not believe I am an Aspie, but I LOVE ROCKING! But as for flapping, I LOVE it when my son does it. Love it. He does it when he is excited or bored, mostly.

Do any of you constantly consciously know that you are doing it when you are doing it?

I liked it/did it it alot more when I was younger...but often I will hand flap if I am really excited or nervous...also Flakey sometimes does this thing where he will flap his hands at me, thus provoking me to flap my hands back at him...sorta silly....

I love to talk with my hands. I feel far more expressive that way :)

I like flapping, I sometimes do it consciously because it just feels good, but most of the time I do it I don't realize I am doing it unless someone points it out to me or my hand hits something.

All of my stims are visually stimulating to me. When I flap my hands its not the hand flapping itself that makes me feel good, it's WATCHING my hand flap that gives me a good feeling. I am intrigued by certain shapes/patterns and I somehow like the pattern my hand makes in the air when I flap. Is this unique or not?

I still flap away; if anything I do it more vigourosly than I used to when I was younger, but now I only tend to do it when I'm on my own. I have set 'routines' which I follow; sometimes hitting my left hand with the fingers on my right hand, or flicking my fingers against my leg, or go for a full on wall punch if I'm feeling lucky

Having said I only do it in private, a girl I work with did tell me it was rather endearing to watch me do 'the hand thing' ; which did make me realise I do it at work as well, including flicking/slapping the furniture. She wondered if I did it when stressed, but I tend to do it with nervous excitement / happiness, so I associate flapping with 'good times'

I realised my mother was completely used to it, when I consciously flicked her quite hard on the arm as an experiment..and she took not one bit of notice...still, she's had 30 years of it. :D

I am starting to appreciate the stimulation of my hand flaps =) it calms me plus if someone else does it i do it back.

ever since i had a nerveous breakdown, i act more autistic than i used to. i didnt even considered ASD or even knew it existed until after i snapped and all my little quircks turned up high

To watch people flap, now that is awesome too.

I wonder what would happen if I was to meet an autistic or other neurological different child who is flapping in my voluntary social work year? I'd get all excited and giggling, trying to make a silly notion with my hand to stop the involuntary attempt to flap along.

Trying not a flap often results in clapping my hands. My mother's already called me a seal for it.

Anyone notice how many different hand flapping notions there are?
