I just do. I wanted to go to the petstore, but i'm sick, so i went out and got lunch. when we came back, these two little dogs were running around our neighborhood. They had no collars. i chased them for awhile until they got to the busy street. I got to pick one up, and follow the other. suddenly this huge group of kids comes out of nowhere screaming at me "THATS MY DOG!" like, i was stealing it. i just wanted to find it's owner. it just left me feeling humiliated and stupid for even getting out of the car to go "save them" I feel so dumb.

Hi ShadesOfMe,

I'm sorry you are hurting. I say this next statement just to present a fact.

The kids you encountered were feeling insecure. They were simply venting their insecurities. The fact is, they would have responded in that way to anyone who was in your place.

Some of them may be feeling just as you do right now. People are not that different from each other.

Take what I have said to heart.

I probably would have said, "Then why is he running around? He could have got hit by a car! What kind of dog owner are you?" Etc. etc. (This is called putting the other person on the defensive.) I'm in a lousy mood, today. Maybe that would have been a bit harsh, seeing that they're kids. But I know how you feel. You are probably cringing inside.

Don't worry. You'll never see those kids again.

Maybe about seven years ago my husband and I were at Petco when we noticed a gecko running around on the floor. He scurried from the reptile area over towards the dog food, where he darted under a palette of (and I remember this clearly) large bags of Iams. I called out to a nearby employee, a kid of maybe 19 or so, telling him there was a gecko under the dog food. He stares at my husband and I, two (then)30-something year olds and asked if WE let it out.

What can you say to something like that? I just stared at him. "What do you think?" I asked.

I wouldn't take anything those kids said to heart. Maybe they really thought you might pick up their dog and keep it so they panicked. Maybe whichever one owned the dog stood to get into trouble if the dog turned up missing and so they became aggitated when they believed someone else might get the dog. As for the collar, that's the parents' job to make sure the pet has proper ID. For all any of us know, the dog may have had a collar and slipped it. The thing might have even been microchipped.

Don't feel bad, happens to me all the time. I live in a trailer park and these stupid owners can't keep their dogs within the confines of a busy street. You did the right thing. They should've said Thankyou for finding my dogs. They probably don't deserve to have dogs. This is graphic but I get sick of finding dead pets esp dogs on our busy road. These owners shouldn't be allowed pets if they keep doing what they're doing. I don't know why I seem to attract lost pets so easily.

Yeah, you could say I'm animal's best friend. That goes for neglected children too. Don't have any if you can't take care of them! Arrrrrrgh. :x

This is definitely what I say to myself when I feel embarrassed. It's a good thing for you to think of, too. And even if you somehow run across the same group of kids again, will they remember you?

Yeah, thats exactly how i felt, like they thought I had let the dog out, or stolen it.

Once I was downtown, and I saw this adorable little orange tabby cat in the parking lot of a restaurant. From the way that he was circling and meowing, I strongly suspected that someone had just driven there, dumped him out of the car, and then left. :x I went into a store and asked them to call Animal control, because I was afraid he would come to harm. I couldn't take him home, because I already had a cat. Well, when Animal Control got there, they immediately asked me if it was my cat! What an insulting way to treat someone who loves animals! Then they said that there was a 25 dollar fee if they took the cat, even though I told them it wasn't mine.

When my neighbors dogs get out, little, cute, but dumb, and I ring his bell to let him know, he acts like he could not be at fault, and as the person telling him, it must have something to do with me.

I have been looking for the number for Human Control, but no listing.

If you pick up a baby in the middle of a busy street, you will be charged with kidnaping. No one wants to mention why the baby was there, you touched it, your fault.

I think the dogs would understand that you cared, and that is all that counts.

I've done some embarrassing things like that too, and I don't know why. I'm pretty sure it was lack of focus on my surroundings, tho. If only I could focus, then I could never have embarrassing moments again! And I think I don't so much. Because I'm not in a pressured environment, mostly. Or rather, not in an environment that's pressure for me. At school, I thought every little thing counted, both academically and socially, and so I got nervous, really badly, and sucked academically and socially, more and more! Now I know a little more that it's not a big competition and I won't get s**t if I don't do well. So I'm doing much better in life. What made it really bad for me was that I believed it was wrong to be embarrassed or shy or nervous as well or things would get worse, so I couldn't show it!

Okay, I go off maybe too much on tangents, don't I?
