Unfortunately pain like this will occur again. And again. And most likely again. And statistically speaking, at least one more time.

The good thing is, your ability to cope increases each time, and hopefully -- i can't stress this enough -- you become satisfied with how much you learned about yourself and what you want from the relationship that just ended.

Please try to view each ended relationship as a learning experience -- you may find that it isn't that upsetting.

May I ask how old you are? This, definitely, is an important factor.

Hiya!!

I know this is hard. I've done it myself...probably will again. But you DO get through it, I promise.

Take it from someone who's been there again....and again...and again...lol.

instead of letting the pain paralyze you (VERY HARD to do), workout and get back out there. Its a response to a pair-bond smashing into a thousand pieces, best thing to do is find a special interest and occupy your time with that for a few months before getting back out and looking again. I heard stories of guys who go through the process going through one meltdown after another to the point where they need to be hospitalized for a short time. (but they have some major insecurity issues stemming from an abusive father figure)

Seconded. Just buy guns. They do everything the stereotypical "prince charming" does:

1) They protect you from thugs
2) They are a source of income (assuming the words "Freeze, this is a stick-up!" are involved)
3) They will never leave your side (under their own power)
4) They express their love through loud noise

I find that even when you soldier on through the pain, it doesn't really ever stop hurting - just hurts a bit less with time. Because even once you're past the sadness and loss and everything, there's that lingering knowledge that you weren't good enough for someone that you really cared about. That's the part that always gets to me.

Chemical withdrawls... fun. I'd just say get some Ben & Jerry's, watch some good comedies, and don't be afraid to get some nice clothes or something like that. Hanging out with friends when you can also may help bring you back in equilibrium.
