The 20th century's biggest killers from the book "Death by Government".
-----------------------------------------
Joseph Stalin - 42,672,000
Mao Tse-tung - 37,828,000
Adolf Hitler - 20,946,000
Chiang Kai-shek - 10,214,000
Vladimir Lenin - 4,017,000
Tojo Hideki - 3,990,000
Pol Pot - 2,397,000
Yahya Khan - 1,500,000
Josip Tito - 1,172,000
-----------------------------------------

The commies clearly win.
Communists: 88,086,000
Others: 36,650,000

It seems that the communists know how to do at least ONE thing perfectly well.

Tomadao,

Yes, death is the only thing the Communists did well. Those they don't kill went through a living death when they see their family members killed.

Chang Kai Chek and Hitler were not Communists.

When I first opened this thread, I thought I was going to see a list of the most prolific serial killers. Stalin, Hitler, etc. didn't 'act' alone. They had lots of help. I looked up serial killers and to my surprise, Americans didn't even make the top ten. Gary Ridgeway, the Green River Killer (probably the most prolific in American history) only comes in at #15. UK's Jack the Ripper, though well-known, is almost at the very bottom of the list. I wonder why that is...

Most prolific serial killers to date are: (list based on number of victims)

612 - Erzsébet Báthory, Nyírbátor, Kingdom of Hungary, (1585 – 1610) [1] - total disputed
300+ - Pedro López, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, (1978 – 1980) [2] - total unknown
250+ - Dr Harold Shipman, Hyde, United Kingdom, (1975–1998) [3]
172 - Luis Garavito, Colombia, (1992 – 1998) [4]
125 - Thug Behram (Thugee cult leader), India, (1790 – 1830) [5] - Total disputed[6]
103+ - Miyuki Ishikawa, Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan, (1944 – 1948) [7] - total unknown
91 - Delfina and Maria de Jesus Gonzales, Guanajuato, Mexico [8]
80-200+ - Gilles de Rais, France, (1435 – 1440) [9] - estimated totals range substantially
67 - Yang Xinhai, Henan, People's Republic of China (1999 – 2003) [10]
58+ - Giuseppe Greco, Sicily, Italy (1977 – 1985)[11] - At least 58 murders, exact total unknown
57 - Woo Bum-kon, Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea (April 26 – April 27, 1982) [12]
53 - Andrei Chikatilo, Rostov-on-Don, USSR (1978 – 1990) [8]
52 - Anatoly Onopriyenko, Lviv, Ukraine (1989–1996) [8]
48 - Alexander Pichushkin (The Chessboard Killer), Moscow, Russia (2001 – 2006) [13] - Confessed to 15 more
48 - Gary Ridgway (The Green River Killer), Green River Valley, Washington, U.S. (1982–2000)

Well, I would have to say that Uncle Joe commanded troops to kill millions of his countrymen.
If he didn't personally starve them to death, he personally gave the orders...

More accurately he was a sh***y military leader who killed his good generals, most of them actually many of them dating from the October Revolution, during WW2, allowed the border forces to be overrun and allowed 2 of his armies to be encircled near the beginning of Operation Barbarossa, rather than allowing a retreat. That and not informing his citizens when the Axis was coming, which would have been used to benefit his citizens. And things like not evacuating Stalingrad when it was under siege 'to boost morale'.

EDIT: referring to the Purges, GULAG and Ukrainian Famine (or Genocide, depending on perspective)
