I frequent a lot of writer's boards and often do critiques for the writing works of others (usually short stories and such). Anyhow, I have offended people unintentionally when I point out different things they need to do in order to improve their story (beef up the plot, cut the fluff, use their spellchecker, etc), and I tend to be very clinical in doing so. After I managed to get a reputation on one site for being especially cold-blooded (I broke from the 'norm' on the site - if someone's work is not up to par, I'll tell them so - but with reasons), I ended up having to explain that I have AS (along with links pointing to info on the syndrome) and why I may sound 'unfeeling' while giving a critique. My intention was never to hurt anyone's feelings, only to help, but in my attempt to answer their request for an unbiased opinion, I tend to be a little more unbiased than most people. I thought briefly about posting something about AS in my sig, but then I decided against it, feeling that people would then disregard my opinions based on preconceived notions they might have about people with varying levels of autism. Besides, IMO, if they don't hear hard-nosed criticism from me, they'll surely hear it from an editor or publisher in the form of a rejection letter.
