any idea of how one could go to bed, sleep through the night ans wake up around 6 or 7 AM without feeling sleepy but feeling ready to tackle the day all refreshed and without wanting to crawl back into bed or take a nap later in the day?

I need 9+ hours of sleep, so I would have to go to bed around 9 or 10 PM, in order to do this. Thats too early for me. I hope I don't end up with a 1st shift job.

No idea and I'm like that sometimes a lot somehow. Might be from being born at 5:15am in the morning lol.

I have sleep troubles, as well. I'm working on making myself fall back asleep.

I've had insomnia my whole life. I take two meds that help me fall asleep: elavil, which is a tricyclic antidepressant that also has side effects that include making you less anxious and making you sleepy so you take it at night. I also take clonopin, but that one is addicting so you may not want to go that route.

I like staying up all night, and taking 30 minute naps every hour and a half or so- I find I'm FAR more refeshed in the morning when I do that.

I got the idea frorm an old BBC documentary I watched about a researcher studying wolf behavior in the arctic circle- he'd follow their sleeping patterns of sleeping an hour every 3 hours or so, and he said he has never felt more productive in his life.

Before taking sleep aids, I was only getting 4-5 a night.

I started taking two different sleep aids different nights.

The first has Melatonin, but also: Calcium, Magnesium, Valerian, Hops, Skullcap, and a few other things.

The other is a homeopathic.

Both are 100% natural and they have really helped me. I take them about about an hour or so before going to sleep. I usually take two tablets. I get around 7 hours when I take them verses 4-5 without.

I do feel more rested in the morning and not to much grogginess.

I do not take them every night and not on the weekends so I do not build up a tolerance to them (esp. the one with Melatonin).

Hmmmmm... beer with vitamins and 'other things'... hmmmmmm (said in my best imitation of Homer Simpson :P )

I do best if I get to bed around 9 or 10 pm... which doesn't happen very often.

I also do well if I do not eat food too soon before bedtime... which also doesn't happen looks over at jar of GOOBER Grape Jelly and peanut butter, and large spoon sitting next to comuter...

When I listen to soft music as I lie down to sleep, I think that helps to relax me and quiet my mind a bit.

One last thing I can think of is my body pillow... since i don't have anyone to sleep with...

Sometimes I find that if I lie flat on my back with the pillow on top of me under the blankets, I can sleep pretty soundly.
I also try to minimize the number of pillows I have under my head... basically, if I go without any, I do pretty good once I'm asleep.
But trying to get to sleep, I usually like to curl up in the fetal position with a pillow between my knees (supposed to be good for the back?) and a pillow under my head.

I recently bought some Beech sheets at our BedBath&Beyond.
They are pretty expensive, but these were on sale so I bought a set and one extra pillow case.
I like the texture of them alot. I really like it when the pillow has a cool side I can flip it to.
My daughter likes the pillow cases also... that's why I bought an extra one.

Some people swear by having a warm glass of milk right before bed... although I think it was mostly my grandma who lived in Missouri who used to do that all the time.

Oh... in the winter or when it's cold at night... wearing socks makes a difference in how comfortably I sleep.

Good luck to you Digger!

The only way I can think of is to go to bed early (about 8pm) but thats too early for a lot of people, including myself.

If your problem is waking up in the middle of the night or having a restless sleep, then you could always try some natural sleeping remedy such as 'Amazing Insomnia Relief' http://www.goodbyeinsomnia.com/
Or rescue remedy, which (apparently) has a calming effect. I've never tried it though. http://www.rescueremedy.com/
