So Im a totally HUGE fan of the late Australian Rock Band INXS. Anybody else here a fan too? What about you aussies?
AFAIK they are considered to be Australia's biggest Rock band ever. I remember not long ago there was a TV show a lot like American Idol to find a *replacement* singer for the late great Michael Hutchence  . Folks, there will Never be
another Michael Hutchence and god damnit he is IRREPLACEABLE! :x What killed Michael Hutchence is certainly of great embarassment to his fans and loved ones, but is shocking FAR more common than people are willing to admit: Auto-Erotic Asphyxiation :(

I wouldn't say "fan," but I am kinda embarrassingly drawn to a few of their songs...that I find sexy....think it might be the bass line...

Probably the biggest hits, too. "What you need" and certainly "I need you tonight." I've tried listening to some of their other stuff, but I haven't found anything else I like as much as those two. (Any recommendations, Dink?)

..judging from the singer's voice/approach, I would agree replacing him wouldn't have worked at all.

Personally, I think a singer has yet to outdo Elvis in terms of embarrassing ways to go.

I'd say AC/DC has had more fame and a longer career.

So WHY are you embarassed to say you're 'drawn' to some of their songs yet you think its cool to like The Beatles? I agree that Hutchence' death was pretty embarassing and bizarre as well as tragic. If I goto Australia I will be Damn Sure to visit his grave.

I dunno about coolness factor... I suppose just because the Beatles kinda broke boundaries in musical content for a genre, and the composition of many of their songs, and simplicity/sincerity of many of their lyrics still amazes me. And I find so many of their tracks have an insane...(arg, can't think of the word) ...number of times they can still be listened to without losing their appeal.

No offense to INXS, but I kinda know them as a band with a few hits that was popular in the 80s. I like the hits, but it's harder for me to defend playing them in the car to my musically elitist family.

Perhaps so, but I wasnt comparing the 2. The Beatles however were FAR more popular and the only elitist cred they have is that they're so OLD.

MIchael Hutchense strangled himself while trying to get his rocks off sexually. How can you idloize someone who died such a stupid and indignant death? Rock stars come and go, don't they? Sometimes they can't handle being rich, famous, talented, with legions of sexually availabe fans ... so they shoot themselves in the head. Kurt Cobain, I'm looking at you. You had everything a man could want and you pissed on it. F***k you.

wow, You're just the absolute model of Christianity, aren't you Slowmutant? What ever happened to 'Love thy Neighbour' and 'Turn the Other Cheek'? You've proven yourself to be intolerant and ignorant on many an occasion.

I put it to you that you could be a better Christian.

I am not a saint. I never said I was a saint, Vorzac.

I wonder what kind of a Satanist I'd make.

Also, I find it pretty poor that you're happy to attack anyone else for liking something like a band or a musician, but as soon as someone picks at your intolerance you play the victim.

'I never said I was a Saint' indeed. Even when you're pretending to be humble you grope for the moral high ground by playing the injured pride card. I'm sure you must hate me for being a ebil satanist and liking ebil Marilyn Manson, but then what does it matter, your facist evangelist beliefs probably say that I'm going to burn in hell, or something equally as quaint.

I like or dislike music based on how it sounds, and the personal lives (for good or ill) of those who create/perform the music isn't of much interest to me.
Quite liked song "The One Thing", which was radio hit before their blockbuster album "Kick".
Also, enjoyed the strange little instrumental "Three Sisters" from "Listen Like Thieves" ('85).

From "Kick", I found several tracks to be pleasantly hypnotic. "Mediate", which might bore other people's ears, was my favorite-I'd write down the lyrics (as I could figure them out from listening over & over) and try to follow along & remember what line came next-helps that most of it rhymed. "Never Tear Us Apart" has wonderfully catchy (don't know the word/phrase for this) overtones or "rounds-style" singing across the chorus, as song progresses. Know it's a sappy romantic ballad, but that doesn't matter to me-I just like the "soundfeel" of it. "Mystify" was good, too.

There were a couple groovy tunes I heard from them after "Kick", think they pre-date Hutchence's death-"Disappear" (parts of song were cool, other parts annoying). I can't recall name of the other one.

I dont really care for "The One Thing" but other than that Shabooh Shoobah is by Far my Favorite album by INXS.
Its very dark and moody, for somer reason it makes me think of tropical africa. The 3 other albums by them I own are Kick, The Swing, Listen Like Thieves. I find Hutchence' death to be darkly funny and ironic, but that doesnt make me think ANY less of him as a singer. Ive noticed though how many Australian Bands from the 80s have singers who sing in what sounded like a southern accent. Whereas many British bands sing in an American accent(with MANY exceptions).

"Never Tear Us Apart" is the song I want played at my funeral, as a love song to my daughter.

INXS isnt the biggest band to come out of Australia, definitely AC/DC is. But they are one of the biggest to make international success and news.

The replacement singer that they found in a televised contest is Canadian. I was really against the whole idea, seemed just wrong some how. And yet....he sounds damn good! Kept the integrity of the sexuality of Michael Hutchence, while not being a copycat. So, I guess they chose wisely, even if it was done with a great amount of cheese.

I definitely like INXS. I have the greatest hits that Rhino Records put out some years ago. It gets a lot play when I'm in a mood for upbeat 80s rock. I really enjoy the ballads, although they might not get as much attention as some of the other hits.

I agree, no one can replace Michael Hutchence. He was such a great singer and front man.

You're planning your own funeral?! 8O

A better love-song to your daughter would be for you to live a long happy life. Don't measure for that pine box just yet, Deb.
