I just came back from watching the new Indiana Jones movie and can't stop feeling depressed. Yes, that movie made me feel depressed. The old indy, the lackluster story, the pace of the movie, the lack of suspense, the computer generated special effects, the [spoiler], everything about that movie made me feel depressed. I have nothing to look forward to. I want to die.

oh geez. I was going to go see it tonight. Now I'm having second thoughts. When the second and third Star Wars Episodes were released I was all excited and they turned out to be nothing like the original trilogy. I'm scared about the Indiana Jones now... 8O

Hey , whatever is bothering you wont last forever. Things always get better you'll see. I know how it is to have a movie get you down, but it is not worth wanting to die. Do you have any friends to call ? If you do tell them your felling down and see if they can cheer you up.

You'll get through this !

do you really WANT to die or is this a desperate feeling?

would you prefer to not feel like you want to die?

hmm.. which raises a question. how dependant are people's emotional states on the mainstream media?

and if you could choose, would you find a way out of this dependancy or is it a feeling and attachment so deep that you could only ever see it as your only reason for living?

I also got depressed from thinking of how successful George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford have been. And now we have his other guy, Shia LaBeauf, a rising star with nothing but glory ahead of him. He is 5 years younger than I, and better than I in every single aspect of life. It's impossible for me not to make a comparison. Meanwhile, while those folks enjoy their wonderful lives, I sit in front of my computer screen, browsing the same old web pages, watching lame youtube videos, trying to pinpoint the moment I allowed my life to become such a stink hole.

First off....jut because someone has money, fame or popularity does not mean that they are happy. If that were true you ouldn't see all these stars ending up divorced, in CD treatment or killing themselves. I am sure they also thought that once they had those things that everything would be great...life doesn't actually work that way.

Secondly...the reason we have painful feelings is the same reason our bodies experience physical pain...it is a warning system telling us that something need to change. When I have a rash my body is warning me that I should not expose it to certain chemicals or I have to much stress in my life. One is easier to "fix" for me then the other unfortunately. I can avoid Sulfa but I haven't been able to over come my anxiety reaction to the jobs I have to work to not end up homeless and even more stressed (chosing the leser of evil is the best I can do at this time).

"Changing the things we can
learning to except the things we can't
the wisdom to know the difference"

isn't just a mantra for recovering alcoholics. It's pretty good advice for anyone.
Make small changes in the direction "you" want to go and reward yourself for doing so.....the alternative can be death and sometimes it is a very slow and painful one....been there.

True happiness does not depend on external factors, nor can it be sustained by them. Nothing external can cure what ails you if you feel listless and unfulfilled. If you've got a dream or aspiration, reach for it now. The present moment is all you really have. Make the best of it, and please do not do anything stupid like hurting yourself.

Please, please tell me you didn't get suicidally depressed just from seeing one bad movie! That was figurative, right?

Is Indiana Jones your special interest? If so, I officially give you the task of writing a better script and putting it on the Internet as a protest against the people who have apparently mauled the story!

Didn't see the movie--never go to movies--but I'll take your warning and not be dragged if someone else insists.

I am not sure if I want to die. Probably not, since seeing a senile Indiana Jones reminded me of my mortality and made me feel depressed. But the depressed part is for real. I came out of the movie theater feeling depressed.

99,

If you are so influenced by movies, you must have connected with some really good ones that made you feel wonderful. I can relate to that.

So give me a title. Name a movie, that one special flick that comes along every once in a lonnnnng while, that really did it for you.

Ah, you are an Indy fan. Nothing else?

Maybe I think too much but...did you notice how they decided to release Indy on the weekend of Indy? Sunday morning begins the pole-to-pole coverage of the Indy 500. Hours later they will announce the latest episode of Indy has broken all box office records.

I liked the first Indy, though I thought it a bit much to cross the ocean atop a submarine.

But I've like a lot of movies much more than I did Indy I, The Phantom Archeologist.
