Well if you look at the Germans did made the King Tiger which was a mobile AAA gun in a tank. If you look at the Americans mass produced more tanks than anyone except the Russians but the Russians were the experts in tank combat spite Patton with his ideas which were revolutionary at the time. I'm more of the American - Japanese Pacific War person due my grandpa Jerry served aboard USS Franklin.

I'm always amused by the fact that while the British military thought the tank was "a freak", useful only for breaking the deadlock of the Western Front in 1917, most of the other countries involved were thinking "hang on... that's a pretty good idea. Let's use it!"

The idea was and revolutionary at the time. It became more effective with Hitler, Russian, and U.S. Tactics though I just remember another tank that the Russians developed T-34 which kick Panzers and even Tigers behinds.

Yeah, the T-34 was a fantastic piece of technology, and an excellent example of what Soviet engineering could do. The battle at Kursk would probably have gone a lot differently without it...

Actualy, Britain was one of the first fully motorised armies by the start of WW2. America was much more tank-phobic (though still had some tanks), and many other nations were still fielding cavelry in pitched battles; infact there is some war footage of Polish cavelry charging Panzers.

Oh thank goodness! Somebody else here does in fact enjoy one of my hobbies. I was wondering if I should have posted on this topic earlier, but figured it wouldn't be interacted much. Then again, I have to remember there are a lot of people here from a wide range of backgrounds.

I have studied the eastern front of World War II for "fun" for the last 20 years. Some things have caught my interests over the years in other aspects of military history, however I have never found anything more intriguing than it. Actually, because of my enjoyment of it, I major in history at university. Most of my papers/research were on various military themed topics, and fortunately I did have one class where I was able to write one directly on the eastern front (German operation Typhoon and the Soviet counter-attack and then winter offensive of 1942 around Moscow).

You want to just discuss the PzKpfw V & VIH or a little more spread there?

My Personal Favorite, small in number, but extremely formidable and could easily take out several times its number of M4 Shermans and T-34-85 since they had trouble penetrating its armor and the 88mm Gun could plow through theirs.

The Germans used it quite effectively though since better armour and guns basically though in the end it was defeated.

Thats a King Tiger and their backside is the weak point on them. Took 4 Shermans to get one but weak back armour = KO. I heard from my dad that the Russians made a tank with a big gun like 120mm or something above 88mm forgot but the point is about 500 King Tiger were produced and by then M-4 and T-34 were outnumbering like 10 to 1.
