A guy that works for me was pulling some song files from my computer today to fill up his ipod. He had me sit there with him so he could ask me about stuff he didn't know. It was all fine until he went to grab one particular album. I suddenly felt like I didn't want him to have it. It was absolutely irrational because it wasn't like he was taking anything from me. Maybe I thought it would make the music less precious if it was being spread around. I don't know. It doesn't make sense, but I really didn't let him copy that album. Do you ever not want people listening to the music you like?

Yes. I do that all the time about MANY things though I, thankfully, never act on it.

I am exactly the same.

I am a fall out boy fan, and theres this perception lately that FOB are a girly band. From a musicians point of view I think they are excellent, if my brother ever wants to add songs to his iPod from my computer, I do it for him, because I always have this image that he will go "Ha-ha, fall out boy" or "ha-ha, green day!"

I find it pretty annoying, but the chances are he wont say that.

I know this is probably common, but each to they're own. If you like death metal, you like death metal, if you like rocking out to a bit of Pavarotti, you do that!

Hope you understand,
thanks,
Joe.

I wasn't worried about what he would have thought about my music selection. I have just about anything anybody would want to listen to. If there is anything somebody would want to make fun of me for I'll just see it as their closed mindedness limiting their opportunities. I mean I didn't want to share that one album because it was all of a sudden special to me, and I just didn't want him to have it.

By the way I have some Fall Out Boy and almost every Green Day album. It's quality tuneage dude.

Yeah, there have been a few bands/songs that I seem to want to keep for myself...but I think that's mostly because my brother butchers everything I've ever shown him. xD He has the terrible habit of overplaying and/or singing the songs in an extremely banshee-like fashion...

It also upsets me greatly when a band I like, whom no one has really heard of, finally gets themselves on the radio. Then I suddenly get bombarded by friends/random people who start obsessing over the single, talk about how much they LOVE them (and sometimes apparently always have), and telling me all sorts of things I already know. I feel so robbed whenever that happens. :3

That's exactly what I'm talking about. Like when Finger Eleven got some radio time for Paralyzer and all the people I work with started telling me about this awesome new group they just heard. I was like, "Dude, they're not new. I already have three of their albums." That completely ruined the new album for me. It's still good music, but I don't like it.

Since when was it "possessive" to not give away your stuff to well-off people?

I'm not possessive over digital music but I never liked to lend cds, books, or games to friends. It always drives me nuts when people borrow my stuff and then it's not in mint condition anymore. I always feel like a jerk saying no though.

I especially hate how people have to crease the pages and mess up the binding when they read my books. :x I'm like the only person who knows how to be gentle with stuff.

I guess this is a separate problem. I don’t know if it’s OCD or what but it drives me nuts.
