Were you ever complimented for playing well alone as a kid?

I remember my mother used to compliment me for how well I played by myself when I was kid: so good and so quiet. I was the youngest of 5 kids, so my mother enjoyed my quietness when I was the only one at home before I started school. I'm not sure if that was a plus or a minus for me though?

People have always told me i was very good at playing by myself when i was a kid. That being said, i was an only child so i dont know if that may be the reason.

I do recall those types of comments as a small child (only sibling came along when I was 9), but it turned to concern when I got to be a teen and they couldn't pry me out of my room to socialize.

It's not that I don't play well with others, it's that I prefer not to play with others at all.

Recently a friend nearly had to beg me to come to her son's graduation party, so I did, and sure enough I went on and on about something with someone who was clearly bored. But I'm looking forward to working on this now, so maybe I won't have to be pried out of my room in the future.

Goodness me, no.

All playing alone as a kid got me was rebuke and scorn, because I wasn't playing with others.

Apparently I was very vicious as a child.

Yes, I was told I was very well behaved and played well alone. My Mom occasionally would ask me if I was ok, and I didn't know why but just said "yes" and went on.

Not me. Playing alone was being different. Being different is being a non conformist. Non conformists automatically have severe psychological problems. Childhood was a baaaaaaad time for me...

My mom always told everyone how they could just plunk me in a corner and I could amuse myself for hours. I wasn't like those other kids who needed a lot of attention -- that was her point, I think.
