Ok... I'm confused.

What exactly is the difference between Right-Wing and Left-Wing?

And please, arguments will not be tolerated...

Left-Wing is the idea that people are collectively responsible for each other in a society. A Left-Wing government is directly responsible for the welfare of all the citizens in the country.

I was about to say that rightwingers are selfish twats who only care about themselves, but I'll leave them to sort out their own definition.

I was hoping you'd supply the left-wing end. Now if we can only have Sean supply the right (not right as in correct...you know what I mean) side, we'll have a... conversationalistically minded discussion based argument?

think the most important point right now is: right wing guys dont want support for the weak, and like that "everybody is responsible for himself"- crap...

Right-wing selfish twat right here! And, damn right I'm selfish. I don't expect the government to be responsible for my welfare. If that was the case, everyone would collectively allow society to fall apart. Ask Russia about it.

If everyone pursues their own ends, the overall condition of humanity will improve naturally. Example: Some people (group A) go around being destructive ("crime"). So some other people (group B) decide it's in all their own (B's) best interests to stop A from being destructive, so they start a police system. No to improve mankind but to save their own individual asses.

Not everyone should have the same level of wealth either. Better some poor than all poor. I like having the opportunity to strive for wealth and success. Socialism is "let's all be poor together!" No thanks.

But, not all socialist programs are bad. We need non-selfish, non-individualist programs and services out of practicality, such as road systems, military, police, and emergency services. This is to ensure that free enterprise can function smoothly on a level playing field. In my perfect world, we have found a balance between socialism and capitalism.

If the government and society doesnt help those in a weak position and those in need of it then that government and society shouldnt expect help back in times of need and war etc. There is enough resources in the world for everyone to live comfortably and even if there werent id rather we where all collectively poor than some obscenely rich and others expected to bugger off anf die but some people just want to get richer and richer to the detriment of others.

There are rich people in places like Denmark and Norway but no really poor people there. Why doesnt any right wingers mention places like these (that also per head give much more to charity and the "third" world than the US and others) as an example of Social democracy as opposed to likes of Russia which was a corrupt dictatorship. Mind you for most post second worls war Russians, the place is is poorer, far more crime ridden, dangerous and corrupt since capitilism came in.

I didn't say we need poverty. I was talking about classes. The poor class doesn't have to be dirt-poor, it's relative to the nation's wealth. A nation could be proud of having the "richest poor people." I just don't want to be poor myself, and it would be no consolation to me if everyone else was equally poor.

China is socialist but beginning to adopt some capitalist ideas... they may well be on their way to this balance that I mentioned. I predict they will kick the United State's arse in the near future, and become the biggest world power.

Yeh that sounds about right (as in correct, not as in fascist). Basically, right-wing sentiment is, the government decides whats right (morally) and wrong, and if you think sumat else your a traitor.

As you can probably tell, Im quite left wing

Economics.
Right Wing Capitalism: A small number of people control the means of production
Left Wing Communism: Everyone controls the means of production equally.

Politics:
Right wing Dictatorship: One individual posses absolute power.
Left wing Democracy: Everyone has the same power as stated in the Constitution.

I don't really want to get into an arguement with anybody, but I do get very fed up when right-wingers use the "Russia Stereotype" to discredit the idea of socialism. Russia is an extreme that went badly wrong!! There are many democracies in Western Europe that use a watered-down version of socialism, like Norway (which Eamonn kindly pointed out! ) and this works very well.
