People are writing a fair number of YA books with Aspie or autistic characters lately. I could make a list if anyone wants it. Right now on my TBR is Anything But Typical and Buster and the Amazing Daisy and I started Marcelo in the Real World a while ago but didn't feel like finishing it. (It's very good, but the narrative voice seemed like every other fictionalized aspie and I got bored with that. Wish someone would write a book about a funny, sweet Aspie like my son.)

I read a romance a while back called Chasing Stanley and the female lead seemed very Aspie-ish to me, although her official diagnosis was something like Social Anxiety Disorder.

Edited to add: I just picked up Anything But Typical and it looks like yet another first person narrative with no contractions. For crying out loud! My son is the classic "Little Professor," he's always using long words and complicated phraseology. But he uses contractions!

I always thought the old Superman had AS, then he started living at the hall of justice and I changed my mind.

I've often wondered about Ignatius J. Reilly, protagonist of A Confederacy of Dunces.

Sorry - I hang out mostly at book-related sites. YA = young adult book. TBR = to-be-read pile.

The only fictional aspies are the ones that are intentionally made to be aspies. The "awkward geek" characters on shows and films are not aspies, because they aren't meant to be.
And I found out that the actor that plays Sheldon asked the producers of BBT whether or not Sheldon's character is on the spectrum, and they said that no he isn't.

Ror and Ozy from Watchmen

Edward from Cowboy Bebop

Ronald from Backdraft

All of these above can have adequate arguments for why they have it/an ASD.

All the Brits posting here will be aware of a sitcom called "The IT Crowd" about three I.T. workers. If you haven't seen it then see if you can view it online (google "The IT Crowd Channel4 4OD" - it may be available to stream from outside the UK).

There are three characters.

One is NT. One is Aspergers. One is well into the Autistic side.

It's very, very funny, but sometimes I think that behind the humour it's like a surreal documentary of my life.
