I have no problems improvising. What I hate is when the goal/destination changes, then I get very confused.

Not when anyone is watching me - I visibly panic & "freeze" if I am suddenly confronted with something I am unprepared for.

Like others here, I am okay when I control the big picture and the goal is clear. I have no ability to improvise in someone else's big picture. My mind goes completely blank when I am put on the spot.

I guess I didn't get it, lol. Bradleigh, and a few others here, I echo similar problems, but Sora I have direct connection with. I notice in conversations on the phone I go over the same topic, or tend to stick with a topic for as long as I can. The moment I see an "out" I'll take it, as I know my habit often bores people. It's why girlfriends often got tired of me, I "seemed" interesting, so "deep in my thoughts," but when they take a crack at me, I really have a difficulty keeping up with my "interesting" image. I've found that my knowledge of AS has made things easier however, my "perception" abilities (sometimes off/on, usually the extreme), and my observation qualities in general make it easy for me to pick things to start conversations with. I like to take notice of the smallest detail, and bring it to light, people are have been very impressed with this ability. I once had a "very good" friend (I often pined for her to be more, but was too scared), I bought her a gift for her birthday, unknown to her was that I knew her birthday-and the gift I got her dated back to a short conversation we had concerning her childhood love of penguins.

My observation/perception skills have helped immensely in this area, I hope some of us with the same problem can use our other skills to the benefit of our "detriments." I've seen many examples before, just "noticed" how many others do this on an unconscious and daily basis, maybe we can apply it in this area as well...

I like what you said about takeing notice of the smallest detail and bringing it to light, I gues that may be some reason why certain people often waited to hear what I thought. This friend I knew, knew how to basicaly help me with my aspergers somehow and often as he was a born leader would wait to hear what I thought as I picked up certain things.

That sounds like a good friend to have. I wouldn't be surprised if he was NT, I've known a few NTs over the years, and unknown by me (at the time) were some of the efforts they expended in trying to "open" me up. I'm wondering if this idea is true, do you know if he was NT? I don't want to elicit an undue judgement call, but it seems very likely to me. Possibly he was AS, or had traits as well? Hm.

I am pretty sure that he was NT, he knew basicaly how I could be stressed in certain situations, I do not know if he knew I was AS though, I think his younger brother may have been on the spectrum though. Sadley I have moved away from the there though, I do felt like I learnt a bit about how to lead a group from him though and to make sure how everyone is feeling.

im incapable of improvising lol

Especially on the phone. I HATE answering the phone cause then i have to think on the spot and its very hard for me to do that. I can call people, but i have to think ahead and map out want i am gonna talk about or else i get lost.
