Do you give advice that in all honesty you think is right but turns out to be wrong?
Do you get all ready or psyched up because you have a certain preconceived image about a situation and it simply turns out that it's not what you thought it would be?
It's embarrassing because I gave misguided advice on the board not too long ago about getting help from the police.

I go both ways with this. I sometimes give advice that I think is good but it turns out that it isn't helpful or even offends in some cases. And there are also times when I give advice and think "Maybe I shouldn't have said that" or "I should have worded that differently" but it turns out to be the best advice the person has ever received.

As for preconception, I've gone through that so many times it's a wonder I haven't learned not to expect anything to be as good as I think it will be, but I still do.

I agree with the above statement; Sometimes the advice I give is helpful, other times it isn't. Just recently a lady explained that she was really happy that she had gotten back into a healthy eating routine after recent weight gain and basically wanted some recognition for her efforts. I commended her, however informed her that she would probably full off the band wagon again, and to expect it. This advice was met with a discouraged look and I quickly realised how my words must of sounded and apologized.

I think sometimes we mean well, and I think that's what counts. Everybody screws up sometimes so try not to be too hard on yourself. If you gave bad advice it will be forgotten soon enough. :)

Don't beat yourself up too much. The world does that enough without us doing it to ourselves.

Well, it's better to have a good feeling about how something will turn out then a bad one. Because having a good feeling about something isn't really going to make the bad thing worse but having a bad feeling can ruin what would have been a good time.

As for giving advice, everyone who gives advice gives bad advice from time to time. No one is perfect, and no one always knows what to say to help someone. But we do our best!
