Any Aspie song writers want to share how they learnt to play

Looking forward to talking to other aspie songwriters. I'm a self-taught guitarist and songwriter and my main musical influences are Captain Beefheart and the Pixies. I learnt the guitar pretty much through mimicking and Punk/ noise music and I don't know scales but I remember the pattern my fingers move on a fretboard, sometimes I don't even here the sound being played I just feel that my fingers are moving the right way.

I don't have much songs online but I'll post some on the internet soon, watch this space.

I got a small controller keyboard for my 17th birthday, as before that, I'd been messing around creating random noises on a demo of FruityLoops that a friend gave me. From then, I basically just experimented constantly, weeding out the bits of music which sounded like they went together, as well as looking at how pro songwriters would structure their songs. After that was nailed, I progressed into trying to write melodies, initially without much success, but eventually after much experimenting, I started to get things which just sounded like they went together, and lo and behold, I'd unintentionally learnt the C-sharp scale!
But basically, everything I do is achieved through experimentation and figuring-out. Formal training is a joyless and horrible thing!

I never learnt how to write a song. I just did it. And you keep doing it, until you get better. Every sh***y song, every bad lyric, every wrong note is a part of yourself, a part of your history and a step towards becoming the musician you are destined to be. It's all about practice.

I'm a self taught musician too, in particular I play guitar mostly along with bass, keyboards and a bit of drums. Songwriting is one of my favorite tools of expression and I view my musical skill as my means of communicating, really. I'm more of an instrumental guitarist though I rarely write lyrics. Some of my influences are Van Halen, Pink Floyd, Boston, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Joe Satriani... I don't know where I'd be without music
