Someone care to fill me in on this whole Autism Speaks thing

People don't like autism speaks here and I've just recently become familiar with the autism and aspie community so I'd like to know why. I could look it up but I'm just too lazy. lol I tried looking it up before actually and couldn't find anything. Are they one of the groups pushing a cure for autism? Because I don't think autism is something that needs to be cured either.

You've got it. They are what people here call "curebies."

More importantly to me, they portray autism very negatively. The videos which they have distributed to television stations and internet sources are very negative making the parents of autistic children seem suicidal or just a short step away from violence to their children.

They get pretty ugly.

Not as bad as Michael Savage, I guess, but still....
