It has recently been brought to my attention that I seem gay. Poeple used ot think I was gay all the time in middle school, and now it's happening again. I just have lots of seemingly gay tendencies. I actually had a conversation with someone about how much I seem gay, but in fact am not. I think this is why I have no girlfriend but have been making many female friends lately. It's kind of weirding me out. Anyone else have this problem? :?

Maybe I sohuld elaborate?

Yes it happens a lot of time.
And once, some people thought that I was a boy AND that I was gay.

Well, I'm gay and people always think I'm straight. So I guess its the reverse of your problem.

S_N,

Don't feel bad. I too have had a lot of false gay impressions from others and it continues. This goes to show you how AS is so misunderstood. I think our sometimes gay-like antics are none other than our often inept and inappropriate attempts to interact with people. It's something we have to be aware about ourselves and try to correct if we can.

I don't seem like a gay woman; I seem like an otherwise straight guy in a female body who is only ACTUALLY attracted to men.

Yeah, confusing, huh?

I have many dominant personality traits that are usually assosciated with being 'female'. It's all pretty much B.S. if you ask me. You can never really be sure of someone's orientation or gender identity or whatever. People are what they are.

I'd just like to comment how funny the title of this topic is.

Anyway, a few idiots have made the stupid assumption that I might be gay. Some people have thus been surprised when I mention attraction to some woman or other. I don't really know what would lead people to make these assumptions about me. Maybe it's that I don't talk about attraction to women enough. Who knows.

Yeah, I think people see me as a little effeminate at first, and may think I'm gay, but once they get to know me, they learn that I'm not. I didn't know seeming to be gay was an aspy thing, I thought it was just my own tendencies. :? According to the survey though, it seems I'm not alone amonst my fellow aspies.

I was called a fa***t in high school a little more than most, but I believe it was meant more as an insult than as an indication that people thought I was actually gay. I personally don't think of myself as being all that effeminate (I like beer, steak, bacon, heavy metal, video games, etc etc) but what do I know.

Ha...I was called that alot in high school too, but I agree, I think thats the generic insult used in highschool by kids towards other kids they don't like or people they consider outcasts. Although I do know that the initial impression of me was 'slightly effeminate' by some of my friends. Not like they had a problem with it though. Neither do I really, I really wouldn't care if people thought I was gay. I just find it interesting.

And beer, steak, bacon, heavy metal and video games are the best thing ever :D Especially together. Could you imagine eating steak wrapped in bacon, while drinking beer and playing video games with heavy metal in the background. When that happens, man, that'll be the best day of my life.

I think its the combination of my screwball antics ( my Ace Ventura walks down the halls at the hospital where I work), the low assertiveness, the fact that i shy away ffrom women. Oh, and i was at that gay/straight/ambiguous bar thta one time, but hey you cant pass up $0.50 drinks, i'm not made of money people. 8)

Hmm...I'm into music, the arts, make better conversations with women than men, and don't like sports... 8O How gay is that?!

I know, and the conversation that gave me the idea was hilarious. He covers his butt with his hands everytime he sees me now. I basically ranted for a good 5 minutes naming off all the seemingly gay traits and stereotypes I fit. It fits well with the current "I blew up a condom" story that someone ciculated. Oh, I'm so controversial.

I think a lot of people thought and still think I'm gay, because I was disinterested in sports, cars and girls which other boys were interested in. To to mention after the age of 17, I started getting interested in classic music, especially opera.

I was called gay in high school more times than I care remember. At first I thought it was something about my mannerisms, and I tried like crazy to make them more "straight". It wasn't until I joined WrongPlanet that I figured out the truth. Calling me gay had nothing to do with how I acted. Its only purpose was to make my life miserable.

How old are you people? You need some old person with experience to guide you to adulthood.

People call other people gay as a way of sounding them out. Instead of asking "are you gay", they just plain call you gay. If you react, then you really are gay. If you don't react, you are not.

People can be real jerks. I am fighting with some guys right now. They call me gay in every other post. Not because they think I am, they want to anger me.

People in a bad mood or pain want to lash out. Calling someone gay takes their pain and bad mood and puts it on the person they just called gay.

Sometimes people are trying to help out. If some person is acting gay, but they are scared to go ahead and be gay, the helping person might say "you act gay" as a way to broach the subject so they can talk to you. Maybe encourage you to be brave enough to make the jump and decide you are gay.

I need to say I think it is wrong for people to be gay. I don't want to encourge it. It causes health problems for people. If people want to be gay though, it is their life.
