Next year, I'm signed up for it, but I don't want to be in it. I play, or should I say, playED the trombone. At first, it was fun, but then, I started getting tired of it. It made me realize how short my attention span is! And worst of all, now I have to join it next year!! ! Anybody else in/going into instrumental music? If so, I want to hear about it. Are you excited about it, or not? Do you feel like instrumental music's monotonous? Do you feel like you have to be in it? I got an answer to the third one. Yes! I feel like the world wants me to be in it, regardless of my opinion!

I also feel like the music teacher I had last year hated my guts, but that's another story.

I'm not in a school music program or band, but I do play piano and am quite into instrumental music.

Check out some of my compositions:

I am not in a music program or class at school because I do not go to school. I just teach myself to play the piano using a synthetizer.

My method of dealing with instrumental music: Beg and plead to learn a new instrument! It really helps. I play several now because of this tactic. Also, it helps to have a good friend in the class in case of what I term "freak outs." Instrumental is stressful, especially if you're doing a tough piece on a new instrument.

I love classical instrumental music. Human voices unnerve me.

I play clarinet. I have enjoyed it very much. If you practice for at least 30 minutes a day, Mich, It can be very rewarding. I went to an orchestra camp one summer and enjoyed it immensly. I got to play a concerto with the orchestra which was quite a good experience. Playing in a band could be one of the BEST ways to make friends. Since you have to sit next to the same person every day for a long time, its an EXTREMELY good bonding experience (unless that person is a jerk, but i'm lucky enough to have sat between to wonderful girls who will be going to a movie with me some time this summer). You should play a fun instrument like the clarinet, the flute, or the trumpet. Although, I'm sure the trombone is fine, as well (i'm just biased since my brother and sister play trumpet and flute, respectively, and I play the Clarinet). Look forward to playing in the band regarldes of the instrument you choose! I'm sure your attention span will grow as you get older. kids your age tend to have short attention spans. I know i had a shorter attention span then. You will get a longer attention span as you grow older, even though you think you won't now (i felt that way, but now i have a longer one).

Greetings,

If only I had access to an orchestra.
I have tried my hand with orchestral composition using old computer programs (mainly scream tracker) and I love it. I've often gotten carried away and composed stuff that sounds like movie scores. Grab me on msn some time and I might let you hear a few.

I think music is wonderful for a lot of reasons. It helps develop parts of our minds that usually atrophy if not stimulated. It is a challenge that grows with each learned composition and satifies our need to excel and create. I heard an old poem that sums it up nicely:
" Music hath charms forsoothe, to soothe the ravaged toothe of beasts and other youthe"
There are community orchestras and choirs and garage bands everywhere. My kids play in a multi-generational orchestra that meets every Monday night and they have a grand recital once a year at the local high school. You don't need to be a virtuoso, just have a love for music. I play bluegrass with a bunch of guys from my church. We get together and sound like country boys but it is fun. My mom still sings in the choir, a litlle rusty but pleasant to the ear. For what it's worth, Kenorri

I love music when I'm happy. I hate it when I'm unhappy.

The reason is that even lyrics in a foreign language tell a story, and usually I can imagine myself or the people I'm thinking about in the songs, and that can be quite depressing if the story is a bad one. The time I saw "Shrek" on a long coach journey while feeling miserable and apprehensive, the song "A cold and broken Hallelujah" made me cry, whilst a year later while doing the same journey, a Croatian song "Ja se vracam doma" (I'm going home") I was listening to was just the right soundtrack - I was going home, not just physically but mentally, to a world in which everything was utterly, utterly perfect. Right now if that same song came on I would feel the pain of having lost that wonderful "home" forever. (When I'm desperately upset, I always want to go "home", even if I am at home...)

For this reason I prefer to play CDs or tapes because I can control what I hear, rather than the radio, which is random, and I leave the room if something comes on TV that I know I can't bear to watch.

As for instrumental music...I like anything if it has a "pulse" or a beat. Lyrics often make a song more unusual, and give it what I call "piquancy".

I play in Orchestra at school... violin… I only like it if I like the song. I’m in no way obligated to play with the orchestra; I do it because I enjoy it.

My band, Clovis, has a lot of instrumental jams. and that’s just what they are ^^ JAMS! They’re so much fun!

I really enjoy listening to instrumental music, too. If it’s good, it won’t get monotonous ^_-

Cat says she doesn’t like sad songs, or sad feelings as a result of songs. I’m quite the opposite ^^ I love a song with a minor key, something slow and depressing ^__^ call it a kink. Sad lyrics are great, too…

I’m going to hit Wolfie up for music someday ^^

I only like certain songs, mostly ballads and if I can make out some of the words. With lots of songs I can't hear any of the lyrics; they're just a gabble of sounds. Although I like Schubert's 'Der Doppelganger' because it's so haunting. The emotion behind it is amazing, and it sends shivers up my spine. If I'm in any mood other than ecstatically happy then I would happily listen to it - it makes me want to cry (as does Elton John's 'Can you feel the love tonight?' and 'Your Song') and for some reason I'm most comfortable feeling low, and at least these songs give me a reason to cry. But apart from that select few songs, I can't stand songs in general because I can't make out the words. Even if I can sort of make out the words I much prefer to have the lyrics in front of me whilst listening so I know what I'm listening to.

Instrumental music however, is another story. I love it - I think music expresses emotions on another level; on a level that words cannot reach. At least I can't reach that level, although unfortunately I'm useless at expressing my emotions through music too. But sometimes I'll hear a piece and it will strike me deeply, and I can say 'yes, that describes exactly how I'm feeling' even though chances are I can't identify my emotion at that point. Which is why I love instrumental music! I also love being able to play a piece that strikes me, so I can actually put genuine expression into my playing - otherwise I'm rather hopeless at being expressive when I play. But when in a band or orchestra, or even just a quartet, the people there are mostly all there for the same reason as yourself, so at least there's some common ground and more chance of being able to hold conversation with them! Personally I just love the feeling of being in a musical ensemble - I can't pinpoint it, but it makes me genuinely happy, which is not a frequent occurrence in everyday life.

By the way I play in windband (clarinet,) jazz band (clarinet) and strings (violin / viola) at school (I'm also in choir but I like that because I know what the words are supposed to be!) I also play in strings, orchestra (both viola,) windband (cl) and jazz band (bcl) at music school (also in choir there - obligatory for anyone attending music school) and I've played bcl in Third and Second County Youth Concert Bands for a year or so, and am about to go into County Youth Orchestra on viola - I'm so excited!! !

Yes I especcially like weird stuff like Trans-Siberian Orgestra (which mom got me tickets too :does the happy dance: and like asian stuff (I love the Final Fantasy stuff and one of my favorite classical songs was "The Wars of the Last Wolves" which I think was in Ruroni Kenshin). Oh also I played the cello in high school but not anymore (the school was mean about their schlorships so I said no you will not get the great Bryan (or semigood Bryan) to play for you.)

I love instrumental music! It's the only kind of music I own on CDs; it helps me daydream and imagine my own soon-to-be-created cartoons.

I like instrumental music, it's cool.

I wish I know alot of metal bands that did instrumental music. I don't think there are many around, are they?

I would like to be in a One Man Band, once I've learnt to play the drums, and just find any synthesised non monotonous tune to blend it in with. It would be instrumental, no lyrics.

I love songs with no lyrics.
