What are your opinions on this bizarre ensemble from NYC?

I must say I was first quite turned off when hearing the breakthrough hit "Filthy Gorgeous". Especially the high-pitched voices in the chorus and the silly lyrics made me turn off the radio everytime I heard it.

Then I heard the song "Mary" and liked it on the spot, a very emotional song and very fragile. I asked the DJ who sang it, when he said it were the SS I was surprised to hear such a song from such a band. I gave them a listen a bit more then and heard a few other pleasant enough songs such as "She's my man", "Laura" (which has a really lovely video as well) and the bizarrely titled but catchy "Tits on the radio"... But then their more disco-style stuff simply doesn't do it to me.

Opinions on the band?

PS: you can't see tits on the radio indeed :(

Camptastic. Love it. I think my favourite of theirs would be Laura, though

"This'll be the last time I ever do your hair!" Classic.

First of all, shouldn't they be the Scissor Brothers?

 I don't get gay music, I guess.

Scissor Sisters is a sexual slang term for a lesbian position. Hence the name. 2 of the band members are straight (including the only female member, Ana) and the others are gay (including singer Jake Shears)

It is not gay music by the way. Although no doubt often played in gay bars, I don't see why straight people could not enjoy it neither. I am straight myself and I never felt anything weird when enjoying a song of theirs. Also, their female member (who is straight herself) is drop dead gorgeous :P

I don't really listen to them, but I do like the two songs I've heard by them. Also, Ana is hot.

They have some fantastic singles, but I couldn't take an album of it. When they have a Greatest Hits I'll buy that.

i've heard a couple of half-decent poppy songs off them, but i simply refuse to forgive them after they completely ruined "comfortably numb" lol x

I love them. One of my favorite songs and video is "Filthy and Gorgeous".
I go crazy dancing to it!

Music by the gays, for the gays, to the gays.

Tony Blair: Tough on gay music, tough on the causes of gay music.

I don't get that gay music tag. Yes, the music sort of says to be open and out, but that doesn't necessarily mean gay. You can be an open and out aspie for example. I think they just want to boot conservative norms in the crotch and say: be whoever you are. Because several members are gay they may be linked to this scene but really that makes no sense to name it "gay music".
I am straight myself, but I do enjoy some of their music. Why would I not be OK to enjoy music made by a gay performer?

Erasure, a band I also enjoy, had one of the first open-and-out gay singers, Andy Bell who already was open about in the mid eighties before the taboo was really disappearing. Even now people all comment on YouTube "how gay". Bullcrap. Why would a straight person not be allowed to listen to it? Why would music be limited to a specific group of people? I think music is meant to be enjoyed by anyone who likes it.

PS: I take back my words on Filthy Gorgeous. I sort of start to like that song. I wonder who the girl in the video is during the first part of the song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgI3BVWkuUc) ; I don't mean Ana but the girl who is in the video walking around but who is not a band member. Well, both her and Ana are drop dead gorgeous :D

You're not referring to the one who gets the makeover, are you?
