ive posted in other threads about various small-time school problems, such as problems with teachers disliking me or some such, but i never said anything about what the different school districts, as a whole, have done to screw me over :/
well, when i was diagnosed with asperger's, i was given an IEP - Individual Education Plan. it just means that i need extra help from time to time and a little bit different treatment than other students. some genius in elementary school and middle school thought that that meant i needed to be put in mentally disabled classes. so, i was in classes that taught me at a 2nd grade level up untill 7th grade, when my mom got pissed and bitched out the school for not following my IEP (a bit late for that... shouldve noticed it when i was in 5th grade). and so, seeing as my mom made me out to be a genius child, they shoved me in classes like advanced precalculus. needless to say i failed the 7th grade and have been struggling ever since. i neverlearned prealgebra, i never learned basic science (untill i watched a tv program on it, <3 the tv for that) i didnt learn jack from the school that was more advanced than what you get in 2nd or 3rd grade. i barely scraped by 7th and 8th grade, and when i got to high school i still hadnt been taught things as simple as multiplication and was lost without a calculator, and still somewhat lost even with one. ive failed 9th grade twice, this is my third 9th grade year. i dont sleep well, so i get sick easily, so i miss alot of school, therefor i have to go to truency court. ive been in truency court ever since my first year of high school, even though now i dont even miss school, im just marked absent when im clearly at school and even turning in work. truency court ordered me to be put on PLATO, which is independant classes done on the computer for credit recovery. i can honestly say i learned more on my own through this than i had in 8 years of school. i finished half a year of high school in 2 and a half monthes. but you know what? i never got the credits for it :/
well, today was truency court, yet again, and the judge suggested i get my GED and get some vocational training as well, or something like that, because geez, im f*****g 17 years old and still a freshman! this is going nowhere! personally im tired of dealling with high school, and its not like ive lofty goals like being a rocket scientists. i want to be a hairstylist. simple as that.
my mom on the other hand thinks that GED are for lazy dumbasses who live in the projects and live off welfare and dont work for their money. needless to say my mom is *ahem* rather pompous. she thinks the courts and the school system is trying to "shove me under the rug" "get me outta their hair" and other such cliche phrases.
quite frankly i WANT to get out of their hair as FAST AS POSSIBLE with the LEAST amount of trouble and bitching and complaining! but shes not listening to me >_< shes saying shes gonna write something to the newspaper and make me look like a poor little autistic child that has been mistreated and conned out of her education, and that i be furnished with a tutor for the rest of high school.
even if i start getting straight A's right here and now, i dont have enough time to be able to pass high school, theres not enough years left, soon ill be too old to be legally allowed to attend high school, regardless of grades.
and its not like it takes a harvard degree to do someones hair.
shes just not listening to me _-_

i'm sure your mom wants the best for you. but it does sound to me that the system just wants you to go away, but legally they are required to give you an appropriate education and i believe you can go up to 21 and still be in school. it sounds like you are very intelligent and i'm sure whatever decision you make will be right for you. please talk to your mom and share your thoughts...even if it takes more than one try.
I dropped out of HS myself. I got my HS diploma from a local community college. It was one of the best things I did for myself honestly. Can't say I'm successful. I do live in public housing which has nothing to do with my education. Like the other poster said you can go to school past 18, but that doesn't sound like an option for you. I'm not sure what to say to your mom. I was living with my father at the time and I honestly can't remember what I said to make it OK. I know he didn't like it, but in the end it was obviously the only choice. If your mom won't listen talk to a community college or a guidance counselor at school and ask about alternative education and your rights. Hell if you go back to truancy court ask them too maybe they will help you get past your mom. :/

its kind of hard to speak for myself in truency court. for one, my mom dominates the conversation and goes on and on about the exact same thing (you're pulling me away from my job, you're not teaching my daughter, you're not ficing the school systems attendance recording problems, oh it goes on) for two, they never ask me my opinion, and for three, its very hard to even get myself to talk in there :/ theres so many people in there.. just staring you down like a criminal.
its really hard to gain info on anything outside of school, because my mom still treats me like im still 13. literally, theres been no change in how the house runs since then. i would call someone to ask about my options, but i dont know who to call, or even what about <_<;
