Im getting really depressed about this because my parents and friends keep telling me to stop walking on them.

But I find it difficult because of my AS...

does anyone else have the same issue?

I never even knew I did this until I was married and my husband told me to stop tiptoeing around the house. I still do it. :D

p.s. I don't see any need to get depressed over it.

I do put my toes down first anytime I'm barefoot... I don't see why it should be something people would tell you not to do, though, unless you are physically injuring yourself by doing it so much. (I guess you could get muscle or joint problems, theoretically; but if your sense of pain's normal you'd be sore long before any sort of injury.) It's kind of silly that they would pick on such a benign behavior.

If the goal is to decrease the amount of foot that makes contact with floor, then tiptoeing makes sense. I suppose you could wear socks or shoes, so that your feet would always be touching the same thing (except for more or less pressure); but then, socks and shoes are both annoying, at least to me, and if I were in your position I'd just figure, "Forget about them; I can wear shoes when I need to and toe-walking round the house isn't hurting them any, so they're just going to have to deal with it."

Still ok in my book. Like callista said...if your not hurting yourself. Occasionally I get wicked charlie horse cramps in my calves when I sleep. I'm not sure if it is from the tiptoeing, but if it is then that is as far as the damage goes for me.

Why is this a problem? I mean, why does it bother people? Screw that!

It looks odd to NTs, and as we all know, most NTs can't stand anything different from the "norm" and will do anything in their power to pressure you to stop. However, the human foot isn't designed to walk on tiptoes, so there is a possibility that you could be doing harm; be careful.

I used to walk on my toes when I was a child. I don't remember why. I don't remember when or why I stopped doing it, either.

I used to walk on my toes all the time as a kid, still do occasionally. This would annoy my family when I did it, and for the life of me I don't know why. I didn't understand why something so harmless would bother them so much. It's not like I was planning an doomsday event or something.

My advice would be to try to ignore their comments as much as possible. If people are so preoccupied with something as benign as someone simply walking on their toes, that to me shows how shallow they are. Just my 2 cents.

I walked on my toes as a kid. Got physical therapy because my family was concerned that my achilles tendons would shorten. Over several weeks I was given special exercies and training to walk normally.

Yay! Another toe-walking thread!!

I am 32 and have walked on my toes since I was a kid. I have walked on my toes so much that it affected the way my feet and legs have developed.

I had alot of growing pains as a result as a kid, It cooincided very much with my horrible motor skills.....and I was teased alot for it....but as an adult, all it has resulted in is thin shapely legs, really gnarly looking feet. a nice butt and a tendancy to twist my ankle alot..

I understand that there must be more stigma behing it since you are a guy and growing up it cause me alot of anxiety because i simply could not stop......anf thus the teasing would continue....

But really--toe-walking is not the end of the world. I read that in some African culture or another a child who walked on their toes was considered to be some sort of blessing
