I voted not sure.

What's a lifestyle?

(Serious question. I know how to use the term, could flawlessly use it in a vast number of sentences, I don't know what it means.)

From Dictionary.com

Quote:
life·style /ˈlaɪfˌstaɪl/ [lahyf-stahyl] –noun the habits, attitudes, tastes, moral standards, economic level, etc., that together constitute the mode of living of an individual or group.

I work in adminstration, live in a typical neighborhood, am married, have two kids, two cars, a dog and a cat, try my best to be a law-abiding productive member of society. I guess I would have to say I live the boring, typical, American, middle-class lifestyle.

Sometimes I think it is. When you live the same day-to-day for so long, it does become mundane. Don't get me wrong, I count my blessings. My family and I are fortunate to be healthy and comfortable. My children are soon to be grown and I am feeling a impending sense of freedom I have not had since I was twenty. It is a natural instinct of parents to put their children first and I do this with no complaints. However, I can honestly say I am looking forward to being able to be a bit selfish in the upcoming years...and maybe even a little excitement. :D

I've lately noticed that having a lifestyle is a very enjoyable thing to me. It's only lately that I've had one, I never did before. I mean, when all things in your life have a logical connection and are related to who you are and how you think life should be lived by you. It's the first time my home, job, other occupations and pastimes all together form a cohesive, coherent, consistent unit that reflects who I am. I think having a lifestyle is so great that it only comes second to having a sense of belonging (which I don't have, of course). I get the sense of belonging from my lifestyle.

My lifestyle involves:

Keeping in shape.

Watching all types of films, and listening to all types of music (except country).

As most people on here already know by now, being a big connoisseur of the Simpsons and South Park.

Going out to eat either alone or with friends or family. Whenever possible, I like to try new places.

I live the "otaku" lifestyle - basically meaning that my life revolves around anime/manga.

I practice Zen meditation every morning and evening. I share a house with others (ie, live at a zen center) and I work full time during the week. Saturday is at-home work, chore, study day. Sunday is morning services and afternoons are free! in sunny California year round. Weehoo!

I am finishing up addressing various issues in my life, as I have been for years and my life keeps getting better and better. I am really excited about this year as I am finishing up some debts and some minor health issues, trying to make time for things that allow self-realization---that is, moving up the scale of Maslow's hierarchy of needs.

I don't understand the term "lifestyle". I understand the dictionary definition but I'm not sure how it applies to me.

I guess the best definition for the lifestyle that my family and I enjoy is that we are yippies(yuppy/hippy mix). That's what we call it. We live in an upper-middle class ticky-tacky Yuppy town among many yuppies and we drive an SUV, have a nice home, and to the people who do not know us well, I guess they'd assume we are yuppies. However, we are eco-conscious hippies with a multi-ethnic family through adoption, athiestic humanists, we only drive an SUV out of necessity(4 kids), we only live in this neighborhood because it's so close to my husband's office and he can bike to work or I can drive him, and we are nature-loving, Birkenstock wearing, tree-huggers.
