Looks alright to me but karate movies are not my type of movie. The trailer just showed her hitting and kicking mostly. I'm getting pretty sick of movies about low functioning autistic individuals. I want to see a movie about someone with AS that does an acret job of protraying it. No documentary or sappy love story. I want a science fiction story about someone with AS. I'm writing a manga and a story of my own.

I watch any kung fu movie, but I have to be honest, the whole idea of a LFA who's savant ability is at all physical is pretty unbelievable.

Its unbelievable but I definitely watch it. This film looks great and I think its made by the guy who made Ong Bak one of my favourite films and definitely the best martial arts film!

Ong Bak is one of my favorites too. I studied martial arts as a child when there were not a lot of women role models in movies (not like there are tons now either) so I will definitely want to see this, even if the story line is weak. Martial arts movies need to be viewed for martial arts first, anything else (plot, acting) is usually secondary (with the notable exception of Bruce Lee who was awesome, and Brandon who would have had a brilliant future as well).

As for it being unbelievable, when's the last time anyone saw a martial arts movie that was? I think this is just one to sit back and have fun with.

Actually, people with Autistic Disorder don't have the impaired motor development as seen in Asperger's (unless it's another disorder they have in addition to Autistic Disorder). If the person in question has no other skill than a normal or above level of motor ability/coordination, that could be seen as a savant ability when one fudges the definition of such (after all, "savant" just means that one area of functioning is far above all the others in regards to an IQ test--special skills like calendar calculation aren't a part of such, even though many people regard them as such).

People with NLD have even greater problems with motor development than those with plain AS [without comorbid NLD].

I was actually a very gifted martial artist as a kid because of my AS. Mild Hypotonia led to great flexibility; my obsession over detail led to perfect form; and my obsession in pursuing my special interest meant I did nothing but practice all day every day, and when I wasn't able to practice physically I was practicing mentally.

Martial arts are easier for me to do well than handwriting or elocution could ever be. It's the fine motor skills that cause problems.

As for the movie, it looks fun.

Being an educator who is involved with training ECEs, I find this really problematic on many levels. But as an Aspie, my thoughts were, "Duh! Of course!" Both my parents taught karate, and I never got into it. I'm a natural at rock climbing though. Flat surfaces confused me I guess. But I learned everything from watching... TV, people, social interactions. How people learn is my main obsessive interest, aside from wanting to do useful things to help people. The plot just seems to me, from my personal experience, to be a no-brainer.

I showed it to two colleagues who are specialists in inclusive education. They both had all kinds of issues about it until I explained my position, and they immediately got that.

One of my students have a DVD of it, as it has been released in Asia, and I'm hoping to see it soon.

Resurrecting this thread.

If you have Netflix you can watch this movie instantly! http://www.netflix.com/Movie/Chocolate/70106732

It's pretty enjoyable :) She seems to be a pretty good portrayal of an autie, though the "physical savantism" is not very believable. She's sort of like the low-functioning version of River Tam...

Okay, okay, this thread is sort of dead, but I just want to add because I loved this movie. Heartwarming and exhilarating at the same time. :-)

For what it's worth Tarentino said it was one of his favorite movies of 2009. Looks silly but maybe I'll see it sometime.
